Guest guest
, I am not an expert at seizures in any way, but it sounds like that is what Evan had. My daughter began having the staring seizures for the first time this year. She didn't choke or gag during or after them, but she did go into a trance from which you could not get her attention (for about a minute). Afterward, she was very " floppy " and tired. My sister has told me that the best way to tell with the staring seizures is that you really can't get their attention - again, this is layman's view. You will feel better once you see your neurologist and possibly get Evan on an anti-seizure medicine. We have had not more issues with since she has been on the medicine. Guest guest
The fact that he did not respond to his name made me suspicious and then the way he was acting and how he slept and then woke up as his normal self has confirmed my suspicions and of course I am no expert but I am his mom and that counts for something. I called the dr. and had to leave a message. Thanks sarachizzo wrote: , I am not an expert at seizures in any way, but it sounds like that is what Evan had. Guest guest
... It definately sounds like a seizure... 's seizures came on strong, similarly, around the same age. Especially since the EEG was abnormal... its not surprising... he should probably be a candidate for seizure control medication...because they can become more severe... but it sounds like you are on top things. Try not to panick, seizures are not the end of the world...in most cases, can be controlled... Guest guest
Hi , 's seizure activity started around the age of 3 as well. How we knew for sure they were seizures was the uncontrollable crying afterwards and then the 3 hours of sleep. We got an inconclusive EEG so at that time we did not start seizure meds. Then about the age of 4 started having grand mal seizures. He has been on Depakote ever since. has had many different types of seizures..........staring spells, petit mal & grand mal(<----not for 3 years now for the grand mal) 's Dad sometimes says " oh, that is not a seizure but 's Neurologist has always told me.........my mother instincts are correct. I would always have Diastat(valium) on hand as well. Guest guest
Hi , My son also started with staring spells when his seizures first started we could also get no response off him when we called his name, but they were defo seizures!! after many years of seizures now he also sounds like he is gagging during one of his more severe seizures but is never actually sick, he wont eat or drink and is very unstable on his feet and then sleeps for sometimes 3 hrs at a time. seizures do have a massive impact on everyone's life but aren't the end of the world, i hope Evan is one of the lucky ones that gain full control with meds. sadly we've not been so lucky, but is still a shinning star and a joy to have around (most of the time)lol Good luck and keep us posted as to what the doctors say. Guest guest
We too have not been successful controlling our son's seizures. He started having them at 6 months old. Many meds have been tried to no avail. Currently we are catching approx 2 a week with many small ones we do not " see " . VNS, KETO diet and surgery are the next suggestions for possible total control. Problem is that after you've failed 3 or more meds, total control isn't so likely. So do we have it at the best it will be as some neuros suggest or become more evasive and try other avenues with no guarantee it will work? Decisions, decisions.................... Guest guest
Chloe had absent seizures from birth or just after. At that time we did not realise they were seizures. She went on to develop Tonic Clonic (grand mal) seizures at about 3 years old and has had them since. She is largely controlled by medication (she takes Topirimate and Lamotrogine, having tried Sodium valporate and Keppra without success) she has buccal midazalam for those rare seizures lasting over 5 mins.
