Guest guest
Hi all, My son Evan is 3yrs old and has bilateral perisylvan polymicrogyria resulting left sided hemiplegia cerebral palsy. He had an EEG in August of 2005 that was abnormal, then in March 2006 we had a 72hr sleep study EEG and the neurologist told us that he has spikes that have the possibility to become seizures but that was mainly during his sleep. Let me explain what happened yesterday and why I think perhaps this was a seizure of some sort. We had an appt at Shriner's and he fell asleep on the drive home, my husband took him inside and I left with our older son to go to a dentist appt. My husband called about 45 minutes later and said he thinks Evan had a staring seizure. Apparently Evan was laying on my husband's chest sleeping and then he starting gagging so my husband put him sitting up on the floor with a towel in front of him while he went to the bathroom and made a phone call. My 16yr old stepdaughter was watching him for a few minutes and said he was just staring at the couch with his hand up like he wanted to touch it but did not, my husband came in and saw this and picked Evan up and said Evan are you Ok?, no response from Evan and he would not even look at my husband, my husband repeatedly called his name for about 30 second to 1minute w/o any response. Finally Evan came out of it and then he spent the next hour or so crying, laying on the couch, then wanting to be in our arms, he would close his eyes like he was asleep and then open them again and cry, refused his milk which is not at all like him, refused to eat pizza which he loves, then finally he took my hand and walked down the hall not very straight and walked into my bedroom and I said Evan do you want to lay in Mama's bed and he put his arms up, I laid him in bed and laid down with him and was asleep within 10 minutes and he slept for the next 4hrs. Also during this whole time he had been gagging and also vomitted 3 times, once while he was sleeping, he woke up to vomit and then was back asleep instantly. He then woke up and was entirely back to himself, ready to eat and drink, he stayed up for a couple hours and then came back to sleep until the morning around 730am and he is acting fine now. I was looking up info regarding seizures on line and I think there is a seizure that involves staring and then gagging or crying. If this was a seizure then I think it lasted about 90 minutes off and on and concluded with the vomitting during sleep. I am more convinced that it was a seizure because of how he woke up after 4hrs of sleep acting like himself as if nothing happened. That time when he was crying, gagging and acting lethargic was not normal at all. So my plan of action is to call the neurologist and see what he says.
