My husband and I decided to let the PMG chips fall were they may and have

another child after Carver. Unfortunately, our second son was born

prematurely at 21 weeks from complications unrelated to Liss. It was

determined that he was typically developing and was unaffected by Liss. We

would have tried again if it were possible.

Subject: Children after PMG child

How many of you have had a child after your child with PMG? Was the

child a typically developing child? and were they the same sex or

opposite sex? We have a typical 5yr old son and Evan who has BPP. My

husband has a daughter from another relationship who is typcial also.

He is not too sure about having another child but I would like to try

for one more and plan to do charting etc to try for a girl. I am just

nervous that this could happen again and unsure if I really want to

take the risk. Having a special needs child takes a lot of time and

energy so we are still in the decision making stages.

Thanks

I had another child after my son that has PMG and he has no special needs.

It was a little scary throughout the pregancy but was very glad I decided to

go ahead and have another child.

Good luck with your decision.

We are still up in the air about it. I have a healthy child who is

older than my BPP child so I know that we can have a typically

developing child, but I am just a little worried but we have not made

a final decision as to yes we will or no we won't have another.

Stacey,

Don't know if this is helpful or not, but I have a 5 year old who is

typical. Then I had twins who are now 3. Ethan has PMG and a

chromosome deletion, while Braden is totally typical. They are not

identical twins.

Thanks,

Hello,

My son Finlay will be 5 in July, we also have a typical boy aged 7 and

we decided to have another child after long deliberation. We now have a

healthy baby girl aged 8 weeks. It is very hard work, but definitely

worth it.

Finlay was originally diagnosed with BPP, but we have recently been seen

by Prof Neville in Great Ormond Street hospital in London, who said he

would call Finlay's condition Bilateral fronto-parietal polymicrogyria.

We are now going to ask for his MRI on disc so we can send them to Dr

Dobyns for his opinion.

My son Dylan (3 years old) has PMG and epilepsy and we have recently had

another child who is now 6 months old. We agonised over whether to

have another child, but after having been told by our geneticist that it

was highly unlikely that it would happen again we decided to go for it.

I was very carefully monitored by the maternity unit at our hospital

they gave me an ultrasound scan every 4 weeks up to 30 weeks and also

carried out 2 mri scans to check the baby's brain. They could never

give a 100% guarantee that he wouldn't be affected but thankfully

everything turned out ok.

I won't lie to you it is hard work having a special needs child and a

new baby, I applaud some of the parents who have posted on here who have

3, 4 and 5 additional children - I really don't know how you do it !

The only thing I can liken it to is having two babies, twins if you

like, but it is so rewarding when they sit and smile, laugh and babble

at each other, there was some jealousy to start with (as with any

siblings) but they really do show affection for each other now.
