Guest guest
Hi , My name is Deborah and I have been using Omega's with my son (6yo) since he was two. We have been getting great results. I use Omega 3, 6, 9 from Nordic Naturals, because they are pharmaceutical grade. You can start with the Jr. version (I would start with 1 per day, then slowly increase the dose). Some kids become irritated in the few days, hold on, because these symptoms go away and the results are usually worth it. At this point, my son takes 2000 mg/day (2 of the adult size). We also use other supplements and I will be glad to discuss them with you if you want to. If you wish, I can give you the number for a great Nutritionist specialized in Special Needs Kids that I have been using fr a while, she is very knowledgeble about supplements and really understands our kids needs (I do phone consults with her because I am in FL and she is in MD). Deborah The Late talker is an excelent book! I was very fortunate to have a chance to speak with , one of the authors several times (we previously thought that Dani had Apraxia, and we were in the same support group as her). Deborah a99diva wrote: I have heard mixed reviews about Omega 3 for kids. Our EI coordinator had recommended the Late Talker and said that she had a client that had marked improvements with using the supplement in both motor and speech skills. When I inquired about this with the Neurologists, they recommended against any supplements because they are not regulated by the FDA and therefore could have " additional " elements in them that could have dangerous/unknown effects. I have to say that my curiousity is still peaked and I may seek a second opinion with one of the other doctors at Children's that also practices alternative medicine. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? is only 15 months and I haven't seen much information about dosing for kids this age as the recommended age is around 3 or 4 to begin. Thanks! --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
Guest guest
I gave my daughter Omega supplements for about 6 months hoping it would help her speech, but unfortunately I saw no results at all. Others have had very positive results from Omega oils. Give it a try, I say, our neuro said they would do no harm to her. a99diva wrote: I have heard mixed reviews about Omega 3 for kids. Guest guest
, The nutritionist's name is Dorfman, her email is: kelly@... take a look at her website: www.kellydorfman.com. My son has bylateral congenital PMG, he was also diagnosed with Benign Rolandic Epilepsy through an EEG, however I have never seen a seizure. is delayed in his speech, drools, has difficulties eating and has a little bit of fine motor difficulties. Otherwise he is a normal child (in regular kindergarden). We started with the supplements when he was about 2 years old (when I read The Late Talker) and he has been improving constantly. I tried a lot of different supplements, every child is different, so the same dose that works for him may be different for your son, but here is what I decided to keep him on, because it is what has shown more results: - Juice Plus ( a great multivitamin based on freeze dried fruits and vegetables) he takes one capsule of the fruit / 1 capsule of the vegetables per day. - Carnosine 500mg from Jarrows - 1 capsule per day - helps a lot with his speech and is is also supposed to help control seizures. There is another carnosine supplement called Carn-Aware that was developed by a neurologist, you can read about it at www.carn-aware.com - Omega 3, 6, 9 from Nordic naturals - 2 adult capsules per day - OPC + 95 from Jarrows - 1 capsule per day (phytoantioxidant - able to cross the brain barrier and protect brain cells, per , she also told me that they help with fine motor skills) - Ambrotose from Mannatech - glyconutrients - improve cell to cell communication, helping the body to heal itself), also great for the immune system - Picamilon - 2 - 50mg capsules per day - I noticed that after I introduced this vitamin, is calmer and his speech improved. It is important to note that I have not started all of this at once, we usually start one at a time at small doses and work ourselves up. used to get sick every week, colds, ear infections, throat infections, ahsma, allergies, etc. After the supplements, his health improved significantly, he has not caught even a cold in a long time. He also used to be very costipated, he now has regular bowel movements every day. I always use natural supplements when they are available (never syntetic). Two of these vitamins (Juice Plus and Ambrotose) you can only buy from Distributors, not available in stores, I became a distributor just to be able to buy it at cost for . The other vitamins I get from www.vitacost.com, they have the best prices, 4.99 shipping flat rate, and if you enroll at www.ebates.com and place your order through them, you also get a rebate every few months (not a lot, but at this point, anything helps...) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Deborah a99diva wrote: Deborah, I would love any information or numbers you could supply. Guest guest
Hi, I am interested in the JuicePlus mentioned below for my son, . Can you break open the capsules and mix them with his food or drink? He cannot chew, so the chewables are out of the question. I would like any info or suggestions you might have regarding JuicePlus. Thanks, Annette (mom to 26 months - PMG). > > I have heard mixed reviews about Omega 3 for kids. Guest guest
Hi, My husband is a chiropractor so our family uses alternative medicine for most issues. We practice prevention - eat organic, eat fruits and vegetables daily, take multi-vitamins and fish oil We also get chiro adjustments, exercise regularly and do not ingest nutrasweet/spenda or purchase items that have high fructose corn syrup or MSG. Sounds like a lot of work but it isn't. We took it slow by doing (or omitting) one thing at a time. We have been giving our daughter with PMG a multi-vitamin and fish oil (liquid without mercury) since she was 8 months old. It's just plainly good for her and once we found out about her diagnosis (when she was 1), we were really feeling good that we were doing everything we could to make sure her body got all of the good nutrition she needs. The body is whole. I cannot even believe how ignorant most doctors are about nutrition. Our bodies are like cards, if you take care of it, put in what it needs and give it regular tune ups, it will last longer and drive better. No difference with nutrition. The FDA? What do they know? Have you seen all of the " safe " pharmaceuticals that have been put on and then taken off the market? I highly recommend being your own heatlh care adovocate do your own research with respect to health care. Look at all sides and make decisions based on your own judgement. Good luck! Rochelle Re: Omega 3 for Infants To: polymicrogyria@ yahoogroups. com Date: Sunday, January 20, 2008, 10:28 AM Deborah, I would love any information or numbers you could supply.
