Each state has a Parent Center which can provide information and support for families of children with special needs. Someone there should be able to talk you through the process and help put you in contact with lawyers who have experience in working with guardianship. In general I have heard (in Nebraska) you should begin setting up guardiaship paperwork about 3 months before your child turns 18 and that it costs about $400. If you post what state you live in or email me I can give you the contact information for the Parent Center in your area. Hope it helps.
