Guest guest
Hello everyone! I'm new to all this and am very scared still and full of questions! My 2 year old son, out of nowhere, had his first seizure Thanksgiving weekend, 11/24/07. We did the whole ER thing and was sent home after the usual CT Scan, x-ray and blood work, with no clue on why he had a seizure. Then he had another one on the following day and then 2 more in one day, basically back to back on that Monday. So, we spent all Monday in the hospital ER and finally got admitted that night at 6pm and when we fianally got up to the room he had another seizure! Then he had another one Tuesday morining! Tuesday they did the MRI w/out contrast to only have to do it again the next morning, Wednesday, with contrast! Anyways, later that day the Neurologist came in with the news that my son has polymicrogyria on the right side of his brain. He's been a normal child. He didn't pull up for a while as an infant and then did a monkey crawl but we never thought anything of it? He walked at 14 months and now at 2 1/2 years old doesn't talk as much as other children his age, unless he's talking back, then he talks perfect and clear as day ;o) but still seems pretty average! Well, we were discharged on Trileptal and he's been seizure free since November 30th, when he had 4 break-thru seizures and they needed to up his dose sooner then planned. He is now taking 6cc. But, since then, we pray to God, the medicine has been working! I'm just really looking for people with similar stories, advice, what I can possibly expect, anything! Also, we have actually been trying to have another child since September of 2007, and the neurologist said there'd be a 5% chance of us having another child with this I'd like to hear from other parents who have mulitple children or what they've been told about having more children after one with PMG? I appreciate anything and everything anyone can tell me. Thank you, ~Blessed mommy of ~
Guest guest
Welcome -- glad the Trileptal is working so well. My youngest takes it, also with good results. He's the only one of my five with PMG. Blessings,
Guest guest
Hi, We have 3 children and Finlay (6, Bilateral frontoparietal pmg) is the middle one. We were told of about a 5% chance of having another one with pmg, but as far as I have found from research and this group, the families with more than one child with pmg are VERY rare. Our daughter is nearly 2 now and she has definitely enriched his life. Annelies, Mum to Gregor (9), Finlay (6, BFPP) and Rowan (nearly 2) 2 year old son w/PMG since 11/2407 Hello everyone!
