Guest guest
Steph, for my dd insurance paid some but our out of pocket expense was $60,000. My dd was severely ill when she went to her intensive inpatient hospitalization and we didn't feel like we had a choice any longer. We were truly at the end of our rope and didn't feel like she would survive much longer if we didn't do something drastic. We would have done whatever she needed at that point. We were fortunate because my school district agreed to reimburse us $38,000 of our out of pocket cost directly to us because they said my dd couldn't benefit from any schooling until her mental health needs were addressed more intensely. Also, how much the insurance company pays is dependent on your insurance company. Mine would have paid more at but that was not where my dd was. Her treatment was more expensive because it was intensive inpatient and is residential. I hope this isn't a terribly rude question, but I've been thinking about the families whose kids have spent 5 or 6 months at a place like . How does one pay for this? Do insurance companies actually step up and pay most of the bills? We are like most folks in that if we have a couple of thousand dollars in the bank, we're doing well. :-D We are not considering this kind of option for my daughter right now. But it is always in the back of my mind. I need to know there's somewhere to turn in case she has to be hospitalized again and short term hospitalization isn't good enough. Y'know? Thanks.
