Guest guest
If he has to work so hard at school to control his anxiety, see if you can work out some accommodations with the school that would make school less stressful. A resource period built in the day was very helpful for my son. He may need a 504 plan, if he doesn't already have one. > > hi, have just joined this group and was so relieved when I read all of the > above, my son has extreme OCD and extreme anxiety and has the compulsions > and rituals, and although I see it all, and become extremely stressed and > worried about it and for him, no one else truly sees what he is like, again > can present as fine at school, but falls apart some days as he walks > through the door from keeping it all inside, he has taken part in " worry " > groups for children, and has CBT with a lovely counsellor, and sometimes it > just blows out of control for the tiniest thing, says things the wrong > amount of times,or I give him a " wrong " look or something happens in the > wrong order, and each day a new thing develops, which is hard for me to > keep up with, we have up coming meeting where he will be screened for ASD, > Im not sure what this involves or even if this is the right road to take, I > just want some help and understanding of what we have been through these > past years, and the best things to help us to live with this peacefully. > Be so so grateful for any advice, and recommendations > offered...............many thanks maree > > >
Guest guest
Hi Maree, my son 22, also is on the autism spectrum with Aspergers (or high-functioning autism=HFA). How old is your son? Having to say things a certain number of times, wrong look, having something new pop up another day -- sounds like OCD to me. I didn't include wrong order, tho that can certainly be OCD too. But some on the autism spectrum have a need to have things done in a ritual type way, need sameness, which comes from a different...oh, what's a good word? psychological need? It just isn't done for the same reasons with autism as it is with OCD. Yes, hard the way the hold it in at school or while out in the community and then we get blasted with it at home! So the school hasn't commented about anything at all? Glad you found our group, single mom, 3 sons > > hi, have just joined this group and was so relieved when I read all of the > above, my son has extreme OCD and extreme anxiety and has the compulsions > and rituals, and although I see it all, and become extremely stressed and > worried about it and for him, no one else truly sees what he is like, again > can present as fine at school, but falls apart some days as he walks > through the door from keeping it all inside, he has taken part in " worry " > groups for children, and has CBT with a lovely counsellor, and sometimes it > just blows out of control for the tiniest thing, says things the wrong > amount of times,or I give him a " wrong " look or something happens in the > wrong order, and each day a new thing develops, which is hard for me to > keep up with, we have up coming meeting where he will be screened for ASD, > Im not sure what this involves or even if this is the right road to take, I > just want some help and understanding of what we have been through these > past years, and the best things to help us to live with this peacefully. > Be so so grateful for any advice, and recommendations > offered...............many thanks maree > > >
