Guest guest
Respiridone is a heavy duty medication with significant and possibly serious side effects. It is associated with significant weight gain. It is actually an atypical antipsychotic. Dr. Jenike who is head of the OCFoundations Scientific Advisory Board has said that it can actually make OCD worse when given alone without an OCD med like one of the SSRI's. Not all OCD meds are activating. You might want to seek a consult with a psychiatrist/psychopharmacologist who is very experienced with treating childhood OCD. Re: don't know what to do about school and excessive talking I'm been following this group for the past few months but wanted to respond to your post because we just went through the exact same thing. My 10 dd has OCD and ADHD and is currently in CBT (which has been very effective). Not too long ago, we started her on Prozac and within a week or two her ADHD was out of control. She currently takes 10mg of Focalin XR for her ADHD. I couldn't take it at home and the teachers couldn't take it at school. Her psychiatrist said that it had activated her and prescribed Risperidone to counteract the Prozac which it did almost immediately. So now we are using the Risperidone instead of the Prozac. > > My 12 year old dd is currently in CBT. We are going every Tuesday. She is also on Prozac 10mg. Guest guest
I think age was the factor my son was 12 at the time. We would also walk away, take a break. Maybe in her handwtiting at a good time have her write out on index cards 1 per card alphabet + numbers 1-10 and if she thinks these are exceptable she can use them to compare to her work, hence not erase. Guest guest
Thanks Chris!! Any feedback helps. I'll try it:) Sent from my iPhone > At that age even without OCD, they can want it to look perfect when they right. Went through that with my non-OCD sons also. As for the erasing, is she getting in tears over it all? Can you tell her only 1 erase for any letter? > > I actually didn't find a " cure " for this with my other sons, just encouraged them that it didn't have to be perfect, just erase a letter once, they were doing their best.... Luckily they got past it at some point. Wish I had a solution for you. Limiting the number of times she can erase a letter (only one more try...) might work, worth a try! > > > > > > > > > My son 14,said when he had that erasing problem to stop + look at it talk to himself logically and move on.
