Guest guest
Hi, Does anyone know how a thyroid problem would have any affect on anxiety/OCD issues? My husband took our son (who also has Aspergers) to the psychiatrist this week for a regular visit. He told him how our son has been having some meltdowns lately...with thoughts of hurting himself. He started this week poking himself with a pencil leaving small red dots. He is upset over a girl in his classroom that is bothering him (not sure her issues, but she is special needs.....they are in a 12:1:1 class for many classes). Anyways, the school psychiatrist called me Wed. stating had many dots on his arm, had been down to see her many times that day already (this was not even mid morning yet) and was asking to go to the hospital to talk to someone! Because he was seeing the psychiatrist that afternoon I called him to see if he could see him sooner....of course he couldn't. From what I explained he didn't think was in any danger and that he would see him that day and talk it over with him. I also explained to him that is VERY tired all the time and falls asleep very easily after school/dinner when he is just sitting watching TV. He was going to see about a change in 's med. He is on Gabapentin, Guanfacine, Abilify and Fluoxetine....I hate that he is on all these meds and concerned about the weight gain. He last weighed earlier this month at 175 pounds (5'3/4 " ). Well, when he saw that day (which, by the way, he seemed to snap out of it and have a decent day at school) he told my husband that he didn't think the recent change in 's behavior had to do with the meds...that and the fact that was falling asleep while sitting there....he thinks something is up with his thyroid and was sent for blood work. We are now waiting back for the results. So, now that I jumped all over the place with this post and hopefully it makes some sense, does anyone have any knowledge with thyroid issues and how it would affect him with his anxiety/OCD issues? Thanks, Debbie
