We did something similar for my daughter when she was around that age, to help her with her " bad thoughts. " Another thing that helped was getting professional help. Her counselor offered support and helped us decide when medication was needed (this was clearly a last resort, but proved to be a life saver). Ideally, the counselor should be skilled in doing cognitive behavioral therapy (exposure response prevention and other techniques) with kids with OCD.
