Guest guest
By the way, everyone I could use some help with the topic of fear of vampires. I grew up in the movie era that tended to show vampires as figures of romance and mystery, so I never saw them as all that scary. My dd Allie has always been so terrified of vampires, and she had only seen very " safe " versions for children like " The Littlest Vampire. " She is 13 now, and we are very strict about her movie watching, so she isn't seeing any really intense images to keep stirring this up. Mostly she sees G and PG movies that come out, but not even all of those, and we rarely allow her to see a PG-13 (only if we've see it first, and know it doesn't exceed her personal comfort level). Anyway, as far as Allie is concerned, every closet has a vampire in it. I have always had trouble helping her with this fear of vampires. All of the standard reassurances that vampires are not real just do NOT cut it with Allie. One time it had occurred to me to tell her that rule about vampires, that they can not come into any home unless someone invites them in. She was really reassured, and didn't mention vampires for maybe two years. But, now the fear has grown huge in her mind again and I am wracking my brains for something to help her. She's the kind of kid that is not reassured if you check under her bed for monsters at night, but give her a baseball bat and tell her to brain the monsters if they stick their heads out and she is totally happy. If anyone has any ideas to comfort and soothe someone who has a horror of vampires, I would appreciate hearing it. Thanks, Sandi **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Sandi this is of me over fears that others see as irrational but I to leanred that this is of a devleopmental , as when you think of toddlers and preschoolers they often have the parnaoia if you will of mosnters lurking and or under the bed things. It is like parts of my brain simply cant connect the reality that others assume in compare to my own thinking of things as cant really tell what is of real and what is of not. It is as though my eyes and such are blind to the clues and subtle things others interpret and can read to know if it is of real or pretend but my brain is stuck with a huge barrier and cant know of that in most things yet. It is of getting better in some areas but not in all areas of this yet. I to get easily fearful of things that to me have logic that does not make of sense to me. And no matter how hard people try to explain their logic it simply does not bring of comfort to me because my brain cant comprehend of that logic that has value to them. One such example recently while to be fo cutting out of magazines there was an image of a female person on the top have but the arms of her were of like a tree branch reaching out and so my brain fearful of this image took some time to check had I to ever seen of this in the real of my own eyes and had to say of no not real then only to have a documentary of a man who was in part human and part turning into a tree on hims hands and feet and did look like of that and it was of real and so now my brain is back to what is of real and what is not again in regards to my own experiences of things I to see or hear in this life. so for this cant seem to grtasp the ability to know how to discern the real of life and its truths for me which causes me to have many more fears than most around me. it is of one parts of my life i to hate and wish there was of a program to teach of this to me. I to also feel more comfort knowing that I to not be of the only spectrum person who experiences this and use to think was and this caused me to think was of crazy in my head instead. Although in true sad that otehrs on spectrum also suffer this one aspect too as it can be quite disabling due to the impact of the fear it produces. Guest guest
You can remind her that they can't come in, and give her something that is a " vampire repellant " of legend. Like a stake (which doesnt have to be that sharp) or a cross or if the smell doesn't bother anyone garlic (maybe in a capsule). Of course, I say this as a Romanian trained in the ancient art of vampire dodging *silly grin* Kassiane --- D22@... wrote: > > By the way, everyone I could use some help with the > topic of fear of > vampires. Guest guest
Kassi's right -- Vampires can't come in unless you invite them. Too bad relatives didn't have to follow the same rules! :-> -- Cassie Kassi wrote: > You can remind her that they can't come in, and give > her something that is a " vampire repellant " of legend. > Like a stake (which doesnt have to be that sharp) or a > cross or if the smell doesn't bother anyone garlic > (maybe in a capsule). > > Of course, I say this as a Romanian trained in the > ancient art of vampire dodging *silly grin* > > Kassiane > > --- D22@... <mailto:D22%40aol.com> wrote: > > > > > By the way, everyone I could use some help with the > > topic of fear of > > vampires. Guest guest
Kassi that is of a good ideas if she can take of pills garlic ones are not of bad and can be to help of the immune system to tell of her they are of vampire repellants beause vampires hate of garlic and will not come to people who have that in their blood LOL but it might be to reach of her logic. I to not be to fear that they will be to get of me per say as if trying to come to get of me but fear what if in the night one is of lurking in the dark and how will I to know of one if met of one. But this is of one areas becoming more assure of self in as far as not fearing that this particular creature is of out to get of me alone. I to not fear of them being in my homes but they do evade of my dreams much at times. Sondra

Guest guest
Sondra, I'm cracking up at your post! Why is it when we least wanna see someone there they are? I loved the movie Legend, but I was freaking out during the whole thing to the point of feeling like I was gonna vomit. I don't know if I wasn't feeling well or the movie was that bad. Hubby told me I was being silly, but I couldn't help it. And, it was a few hours after I had held my 12 yr-old black lab retriever to be euthanized, she was sick. Maybe that added to it, I had cried all day. Debi -
Guest guest
It only works on the blood-sucking ones. The hairy, smelly ones need a silver bullet. I don't remember how you get rid of the green, slimy ones. Is it sprinkling salt on them? Of course, probably trying any of these things would get them to leave the house! -- Cassie abbysdad42@... wrote: > > In a message dated 1/18/08 4:55:52 PM Eastern Standard Time, > czupke@... <mailto:czupke%40opendoorsnow.org> writes: > > Too > bad relatives didn't have to follow the same rules! :-> > > -- Cassie > > lol. if the bad relatives come anyway can we stab them with a stake? just > teasing lol > eric abbys dad > > **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi All, I want to thank everyone for their responses. Too funny! I really appreciated the terrific suggestions. Allie has decided the garlic capsules are just the thing and will be happy to try them, but her next question was: " But Mom, what about the burglers and robbers? Garlic won't keep them away will it? " LOL At least fear of burglars is easy to deal with, they don't want anything we have! Since both fathers-in-law had major surgery this week, we spent most of the weekend busy running to the hospital visiting. We'll start those garlic " vampire repellant " capsules today. I think I'll get a psuedo " stake " ready, just in case..... Thanks again! :-) Sandi In a message dated 1/18/2008 4:51:57 P.M.
