Guest guest
I work with kids with CP, who have meltdowns with crying and anger. Usually when they have reached that point, I can't reason with them and I remove them from the group. Usually they have already done that and sat on the floor. If I catch it early on or for whatever reason, they may just need that break to regroup. If they are tired or it is a monday or they are not feeling well, it takes more effort. Some things that have worked: humor, distraction, talking about something important to them, and finally taking a walk. Just getting out of the room usually turns it around. I usually leave the room as last resort b/c lots of times, the trigger is having to do something that is difficult like table work. If it is at night, the trigger prob. is being tired. The kids who are more emotional tend to also really like the 1:1 time with people they trust and do well with routines and schedules. If you haven't already done this, try to stick to schedules and bedtime routines and work in some 1:1 time with her if possible. It does get more complicated when you have a child with brain damage from the CP and OCD on top of that. It takes alot of love and patience to stay calm for them. Just some thoughts. > > Hi > My 12 year old daughter has CP with OCD w/ anger outbursts. Has anyone else experienced the anger outbursts? And how do you handle them? This is something that happens nightly when she is tired and sometimes can go on for 2 or more hours. > > thanks > > jane >
Guest guest
Does she have some OCD bothering her at bedtime? Some people have rituals/compulsions they have to do to get ready for bed; some find that the " down time " causes their thoughts to be worse as there is no distraction, etc. had a problem getting to bed because if it didn't feel " right " when he got on his bed or laid down " right " then he had to get back up and try again & again. He could get on his bed fairly easily any other time of the day! And the frustrations of OCD can cause anger. > > Hi > My 12 year old daughter has CP with OCD w/ anger outbursts.
