I don't know what age your son is and if it is a high school team. My husband

was a high school tennis coach and the policy was that if the student missed the

practice before the game/match, he couldn't participate. The athletic director

randomly walked through to make sure the student didn't play. If it is the same

sit., the coach should have reiterated the policy and not made a judgment about

your son. I would talk to coach and tell him how much your son likes to play

hockey and appreciates all he does, blah, blah, blah. But it would be helpful for

your son if he knows the rules/policies of the team and to please emphasize the

rules and not make personal comments about your son. Worst case scenario, he

denies or says he took it the wrong way. You can just say thing at he will be a

better player for the team if the coach can help out. It is not like you're

complaining about him not playing your son enough, you just want clarification

of the policy and some decent coaching approaches.

> Hi! I have an issue that has come up with my sons hockey coach. I want to know

what you all think about me confronting him. Last Thursday, he missed practice

because of a prior injury that has surfaced. he was having pain and I took him

to the doc. He called in saying he would not be there. Sat there was an evening

homegame that he got scratched from playing. When he asked the coach why he

didn't play coach told him it was because he didn't come to practice. My son

told him the doctor said to rest that night.Coach speaking: " I Don't Care, "

" I've played in pain before, and you should of come to practice. " Needles to say

he is upset as I am. I want to confront him but in a way that isn't going to

ruin it for my son. Can't pull him off the team since season has begun and is

paid for. Next year most likely won't return to this team. opinions appreciated.

I am going to his practice Monday night and was going to speak to the coach

after.

My sons are out of high school, but I also recall it could be pretty strict like

that. Probably the same if this were a team outside public school too. I

agree that comment wasn't called for, he should have just said that's the rule

and let it go.

I recall one boy who played baseball too, and soccer season practice started

during the baseball season. BIG to-do his senior year because they weren't

going to let him play soccer because he missed practices (he'd been on the team

the previous years, good player too). I think they put on the the JV team as a

compromise...remember that, but think he did get to play on the varsity later

part...senior year and all that, but actually not sure if he did get to

later.... Anyway, coaches can be strict.
