Guest guest
I am so sorry. That is a lot for any mom to face. Guest guest
I know we all are in the same boat so I hope you don't mind as I complain a bit...(: Thanx for your comments Debi I have learned alot from you !!! Darby did not go to mcd's and is coping well???? Maybe she will go to school tomorrow? No war just asking... I figure she is just getting over the ear problem but I can not tell for sure. She has swimmers ear and wears a head set to keep her ear wet...It is always a guessing game with a child who does n ot always tell me what she is feeling etc... I got out today with my son 7 and NT and we went grocery shopping... At least it was out! Guest guest
Well, you definitely have an audience here that really can empahtize with what you're going through. I can see why she's even more rigid since she's been in some kind of pain for so long. I suppose you've tried ear drops to relieve the pain? HEEL products have pain relievers, pills that dissolve & Traumeel is a good topical ointment. I hope you survived the 5p no McD's! Marie A. > > Mom needs a break. Guest guest
Darby does not want to take her ear medicine. Her ears are very sensitive. The oral antibiotics did not work so ear dropps 3 times a day were prescribed. I've used Traumeel once for muscle pain, never thought about ear pain thanx! Darby asked once to go to mcds at 5pm. It is a ritual that we do even on weekends. We said no and she did not ask again? No fight?!!!! All night after her bath she said no school, no mcds and no skating. I could not get the 170lb girl to get dressed this am so i said no mcds and she was fine.... I don't have anything else I can take away that I know she will care about? We will see if she can go without mcds another night? I feel a bit defeated today. She has slept the morning away so I guess it is back to the drs again. Maybe he can prescribe something oral again? Thank you all for listening. It got me thru a tough day. Darby's mom Marie wrote: Well, you definitely have an audience here that really can empahtize with what you're going through. Guest guest
Sounds like she's just not feeling well. For her not to even fight/tantrum for her McD's seems like she's sick enough she can't even muster up the energy to protest. Going to the drs sounds like a good idea. Seems to me she's trying to tell you that she's sick & maybe she really isn't resisting going back to school? Guest guest
Sondra:: your probably right as she said her ears were healthy when the drops were present today and later she said her ears were sick when the drops were not insight. I asked her if the ear drops hurt and she circled yes. thanx so much tracy sondra wrote: For some of us unless we coorelate of the two things such as ear infection/pain with drops/medicine that will make the infection/pain go away it does become a battle because we see the attack as intrusive and causes us mass confusion of they reasons for you being of forceful to us to do this to our bodies. We do not understand because it is not coorelated within us as connected. for me it would be of very disconnected and cause me the feeling of being hurt or attacked and not understand of the why to it. So maybe if you can find a way to show her visually why and maybe show a picture to her of an inner ear and show her how hers has of a bad virus bug in her ears and the only way to make the bug get out is of this magic drops that makes the bug leave. show her by pretend of doing it in a doll or pretend to be to put the drops into you ear and then say " You turn " and see if maybe this will reach her logic of the need for the drops. this might not work as I to not know of how her thinking and logic is since never to met of her before. Guest guest
Debi: Darby loves coloring too but not as much as mcds.... I am afraid another negative consequence will not work... I have asked her why she does not go to school by writing it down. I wrote Bored? unchallenged? ears? anxious? worried about behaviours? Lazy? Tired? Something else? She chose unchallenged by circling and then read it as she circled. Now the hard part is to talk to the school who sees her behaviours as extremely challenging and her intelligence as very low.... Thanx I'll keep colorng in my back pocket Debi wrote: What does she do when she's at home? For Allie denying her coloring or television would be about the end of the world for her. Guest guest
Hi I had the same sort of problems with school for my daughter. I think that because they had no way to test what she'd learnt they just kept giving her the same old work. She was so bored that her behaviour became a real issue and I suspect that she was then gradually given more freedom to do her own thing instead of being challenged. I know that she spent a lot of time playing the playstation. Anyway, I suspect that it wasn't really lack of trying on the teachers part but more a case of things falling apart a little at a time. With so many other kids with similar problems it must be easy to overlook sometimes. Unfortunately when we raised these issues with the school we were not given the susport that we hoped and the situation further deteriorated. The teacher became very defensive and non-communicative. This put us in a very difficult position as our daughter has very limited language and was using all of it to explain her dislike/fear of school. Anyway, over Christmas holidays her behaviour improved so much that I started trying to teach her a few things myself. Simple stuff like sightwords and alphabet and counting. She's 12 and at first I was surprised at how much more she knew than her report cards told us. Over the next few weeks we tried harder stuff and challenged her even more. She showed so much improvement over the holidays we decided to home school her this year. So far so good. She's shown more academic progress in the last 3 months than she's shown in 6 years of school. Homeschooling is not as scary as I thought it would be and she's so much happier. (me too - not worrying all the time.) There are plenty of websites and books available and help from others in similar situations. I'm sure that being able to plan learning specifically for my daughter (and having all day together to get it done) has helped the whole family. Thanks Re: I need a break but I just can't get one/heading for burnout So they're treating her like she's stupid, I'm willing to bet. It's hard to know what's in there with some of the behaviors. I wish there was some good way we could find to bridge the gap between the behaviors/lack of communication & being able to know what's in there. I really wonder if/when we homeschool if Allie's abilities will open wide if I can structure learning toward her interests. Guest guest
That reminds me. Everyone reacts differently to me home schooling - some look at me as if I've lost my marbles, others are supportive, but one told me I was being selfish. I was so shocked at the attack I was on the verge of tears (not that I let her see that.) She told me that I needed to keep my daughter in school so that the system doesn't shut these kids out altogether. I can see the point (even if it was rudely made) and will support other parents in getting appropriate placements but not at the expense of my daughters' future. Anyway, please let me know if I can help with any homeschooling ideas. I've found inspiration in some very strange places. I'd be especially interested in how you're approaching mathematics. My daughter has no love for numbers and it's difficult to engage her interest in anything mathematical. Guest guest
: Darby did have trouble with math for years... After our facilitated communicaton conference we realized if we held Darby's hand she could answer grade level math questions on a key board. Darby can do math by circling the correct answer/multiply choice too. Once we know she knows the math concept then we find we can get her to write the correct answer in pencil and sometimes she then uses just pencil and not fc at all? Fc is a contoversial technique but there are so many people who use it and do not need help anymore...We are trying this at our home sometimes. Lucy Blackman's story and Sue Rubin are just a few stories worth reading. There is a girl named Carly in Canada who just started typing w/o fc help... Same thing new stuff no one knew she ever knew!!! Try the hard concepts - grade level and see what she does????? take care, tracy s wrote: That reminds me.
