Guest guest
I just heard this as well...I missed it but hoping I can get it online. They were going to interview my son and my family for this special but we opted out because if some of the things they wanted to do that were if concern to me. I'll be interested to see how it came out. Sent from my iPhone
Guest guest
I got to see all but about 20 minutes of it as I found out 20 minutes into it. I thought it was a pretty good interview. I wish that they had someone on there with something besides contamination issues though. At first, my dd didn't have any issues with contamination. It was just scrupulosity so I had no idea it was OCD. I still think the way they portrayed it a lot of people who don't know much will still think its all about germs. But there was something interesting I didn't know. They showed an MRI and said you can tell if someone has OCD by the way their MRI lights up. And they traced it to either overacting or underacting glutamate. I don't know what glutamate really is, but it looks like that would help them find some kind of way to measure glutamate and maybe find some kind of medication to control glutamate. I'm no doctor, scientist or anything like that...just looking at logic. > > I just heard this as well...I missed it but hoping I can get it online. Guest guest
That is interesting info, . I'm going to to the website to see if they archived the show so I can watch, I just caught the last 10 minutes. Interesting that they followed that show up with an hour about young kids with schizophrenia, was that ever upsetting to watch! I didn't realize that kids so young could have schizophrenia, so heartbreaking! > > I got to see all but about 20 minutes of it as I found out 20 minutes into it. Guest guest
Interesting with the glutamate. I tried a supplement for that was supposed to affect gluatmate, to boost it, but no luck for us. The thing with OCD is that they know meds that affect serotonin (SSRIs) help but don't really know why, and that it seems to help most people. They do know other " brain chemicals " are also involved. I wonder if sometimes it is an " individual thing " for each OCDer or some balance with them all. I mean, why do some have contamination issues, some bad thoughts, some scrupulosity...but not all, do certain " brain chemical balances " make a particular OCD behavior result? So anyway, I've " played " with some supplements for each thing, but never combined the supplements/take at same time. Well, was that time when was on inositol powder and it was helping and I added 5HTP which for him kept him up, like insomnia or something, and he seemed hyped up so I dropped it the same week. > > > I got to see all but about 20 minutes of it as I found out 20 minutes into it. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing. didn't get to watch the show yet but my parents did and recorded it. Fascinating about the MRI. My understanding is that glutamate is an amino acid. My daughter takes a supplement of glutamate and some other amino acids and it has helped her behavior and sleep and calmed the OCD. We just did urine test to check her levels of amino acids and seratonin..... Haven't gotten results yet. There is still so much they don't understand about the brain. in NC Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: 20/20 special on OCD I got to see all but about 20 minutes of it as I found out 20 minutes into it. Guest guest
I know what you mean . The segment on schizophrenia was heartwrenching. My heart really goes out to those parents. > > > > > > I just heard this as well...I missed it but hoping I can get it online. Guest guest
, I am in NC too. What made you decide on a Glutamate supplement? Did the doctor detect a deficiency? Just curious. > > > > I just heard this as well...I missed it but hoping I can get it online. Guest guest
We did lGg allergy testing through our Naturopathic Doctor and he recommended the Glutamine supplement because of her gluten intolerance. I am not positive there is a connection to what 20/20 show called Glutamate but I plan to look it up. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: 20/20 special on OCD , I am in NC too.
