Guest guest
I am interested in this too. We are just entering into this world with my 3 year old. Of course, I keep tracing it back and I can make a bit of a pattern. Of my three kiddos, she was the only one who was at all colicky. She also started behaviors that are arguably compulsive pretty early--like not being able to go to sleep at night unless she had a binky in her mouth and one in each hand. Granted, that could be a " normal " thing, but when I start to look backward, I do wonder.  ________________________________ To: Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2012 11:40 AM Subject: just out of curiosity - were any of your kids colicky?  I'm just wondering if there is any kind of link between colicky babies and OCD. My daughter was very colicky as a baby and I wonder now if she was having " bad thoughts " even then and that's what caused the endless crying. Not that it really matters now. Just wondering how many of you out there experienced that. I feel so bad for our kids and what they have to deal with sometimes. I wish there was something I could do to make it all disappear. Guest guest
My firstborn, who was diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD first, had his OCD hit when he was in 6th-grade. He was colicky when he was a baby. He had major contamination fears and high anxiety level. (He is now almost 20 and rarely has contamination fears and his anxiety level is extremely low to what it was. My 11 year old daughter had her OCD hit in 3rd-grade and she was not colicky as a baby. (In fact she was my wellest child ever!) Wish I could give you more help as to the colic thing, but my daughter didn't fit the profile with that. -Melinda Hall

Guest guest
In our case, my OCDer wasn't colicky. His twin was. And my oldest some too, but mostly the one twin. > > I'm just wondering if there is any kind of link between colicky babies and OCD. > > My daughter was very colicky as a baby and I wonder now if she was having " bad thoughts " even then and that's what caused the endless crying. > > Not that it really matters now. Guest guest
Interesting... my son had colic as a baby--lasted 9 months. My girlfriends son had colic as well, and now at the age of 5, is showing OCD tendencies. Extreme separation anxiety, won't sleep alone... has to follow his routine to the T or he has a break down, extreme hoarder.. he won't even let her throw away broken toys. Curious if there is some relation since I always thought his colic was really just his persistent personality coming through as an infant. He is 6 and when his OCD is flaring, he cry's and throws tantrums and there is nothing we can do to calm him down... just like when he was an infant. Feel so sad for these kids, I can't imagine what it is like living inside their head. Guest guest
yes my son was colicky as a baby, very unsettled at night, cried, wanted to be held, didnt want to sleep in his cot, only when craddled in arms, he found it hard to go to sleep on his own for many years, just thinking this may hav been signs of OCD, he didnt sleep through the night for years...............wonder if there is a connection? > > > ** > > > > > > I'm just wondering if there is any kind of link between colicky babies and > > OCD. > > > > My daughter was very colicky as a baby and I wonder now if she was having > > " bad thoughts " even then and that's what caused the endless crying. > > > > Not that it really matters now. Guest guest
YES! My daughter did not sleep through the night for YEARS!! As an infant she did not sleep for more than 20 mins at a time. Blood curdling constant screams. Some days she would scream ALL DAY. Husband and I would take turns leaving the house to get a break from the crying. Always walking on eggshells not to wake her up. She would wake up crying until she was 3 1/2 years old before it stopped. I think there is a definite connection. Her separation anxiety started at 5 months and persisted until 3 1/2 as well. Never had a break in separation anxiety like all the text books said would happen. It was constant. Tired of hearing.. " It's just a phase " .. been hearing that her whole 4 1/2 years. > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > I'm just wondering if there is any kind of link between colicky babies and > > > OCD. > > > > > > My daughter was very colicky as a baby and I wonder now if she was having > > > " bad thoughts " even then and that's what caused the endless crying. > > > > > > Not that it really matters now.
