Guest guest
I know that Tamar Chansky, moderator on this board, will do Skype therapy. ________________________________ To: Sent: Monday, May 14, 2012 6:51 AM Subject: - Skype  I absolutely ditto about wasting your time on someone who won't admit they don't know how to do it. It's like waiting around months on a bad car mechanic - all the talking in the world isn't going to replace your radiator. ERP is a procedure and either they know how to do it or they don't. , can you share who you found who does Skype therapy????? Rhonda Re: Son diagnosed with OCD. Not sure if diagnoses is correct... I am I would agree with Barb on everything she said. My son was dx at age 3 and try explaining it to a 3 year old. Sobbing and wailing " I know you say it is safe, but I feel like Im going to dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! " Yes harder in a younger person but the theory is the same. You can tel lher how much you love her and you hate Mr WRong and you are going to help her get rid of him, because you love her and hate what he is doing to her. But she needs to know that getting rid of him hurts. You could use the analogy of a splinter in the finger or something she might understand- it hurts to have it in, and it hurts to take it out but when you are done it feels MUCH better. Also Know that anything " she " says to you is not her talking. It is Mr Wrong saying all that stuff and you can feel free to just ignore it emotionally even if you do try to set bounderies around it at other times ( dont try to set bounderies during an exposure unless there is physical danger to someone in which case the exposure is probably too hard or you neeed meds or a med change to try). Guest guest
Sadly, we did scype as part of a study which is no longer going on. The issues with scype are that insurance wont cover it ( it is not fact to face) and it also cant be practiced across state lines except under study protocals. You might check the OCF website research tab to see if anyone has a scype study protocal going on > > I absolutely ditto about wasting your time on someone who won't admit they don't know how to do it. Guest guest
NC Medicaid will cover telemedicine and telepsychiatry if providers enrolled as a NC Medicaid provider. I would hope some other type insurances also cover it! > > >
Guest guest
WOW! that is progressive. I have BC/BS (magellin covers mental helath) and they wont cover it. GO NC medicaid! I wonder how one states medicaid can do it and another's cant? Seems like federal money should be federal money. > > > > > >

Guest guest
We Skype with a provider who never had skyped before but when we asked was willing to consider it. (Her receptionist had said no but when I brought it up in our first meeting she was very open to looking into it.) The first person I talked to at our insurance company (BC/BS) also said no but when the dr submitted a request in writing (explaining that we live 1 1/2 hrs away from the nearest provider of ERP/CBT and requesting skype and/or 2 hr in person visits every other week instead of 1 hr per week). I followed up with a phone call and they granted both. For us we visited in person the first month or so then went to Skype and lately have mostly skyped with some face to face visits. This has worked well for my 10 yr old son who is moderate OCD and pretty self aware. Whether it is this particular therapist or a culmination of reading books on OCD, many conversations, therapy, encouragement from a classmate or a combination, my son gave up a bottle of lotion this week after using as many as 28 times a day for the past 2 years (his chosen target behavior). For those of you familiar with the Lord of the Rings series, he made an analogy a couple weeks ago to OCD as the ring and himself as Frodo who must resist the temptation to put the ring on. I think that helped too. Sent from Frost's iPhone

Guest guest
Sounds terrific. How great that he could give up the lotion!
