Hi all, new to this group. I have a son (15.5) with pretty severe Tourette's

syndrome and also co-morbid anxiety and OCD. His OCD manifests more with how it

interacts with his tics than it does ritualistic behaviors, and it's more his

obsessive thinking/fixating than it is outwardly obvious behaviors. In his case,

he doesn't want to hear certain words (positive or negative) like " NY (too

exciting) " school " (stressful), etc. He also doesn't want to take showers, brush

his teeth, go out anywhere, even for a walk because all of those things are

anxiety provoking and cause him to have a lot of tics. His tics are motor and

vocal (not swearing, thank God) but they are pretty physically debilitating and

exhausting.

He just spent 3 weeks in an outpatient partial hospitalization program, however

it was not specifically for OCD/anxiety, it was for teens in crisis, so there

were kids dealing with substance abuse, school avoidance, etc, none of which my

son deals with, thank God. We don't have any OCD/anxiety programs here and the

place he was for outpatient recommended residential treatment for him based on

their observation and treating him over a 3 week period. They recommended

's, so I have already done the phone screening and my son is on the waiting

list, which is probably another 3-4 weeks.

In the meantime, I'm desperately trying to connect with any other parents who

have had their kids through this program at 's or know anyone who does.

It's a long way from home (we're in VA) and I want to be as sure as possible

that this is a good fit before we get much closer to his turn coming up.

Unfortunately, my husband is *not* in agreement with sending him, but he's in

denial big-time and always has been about my son's conditions. So the more info

I can get, and especially to hear from others who hopefully have positive

experiences would be so helpful.

Thanks in advance!
