Guest guest
My dd is 10 yo, has ocd/anxiety. Some of you may remember my mentioning last summer she had tried out for a play (which was a disaster, her anxiety was at an all time high and came into play BIG time at the audition). She got into a smaller version of the play and is performing this Sunday! It is a series of plays about children's mental health disorders. She will be in a play about schizophrenia. She has had rehearsal, where they learned more about schizophrenia. Of course, leaving rehearsal, she says " Now I am worried I will get it. " We talked about how it is rare, it usually doesn't show up until people are older, and is VERY uncommon in children. Other plays are about ocd, anxiety, adhd, tourettes, etc. Since it is so rare in children, they still wanted to do a play about it because, when asked about mental health disorders, most people mention schizophrenia, but cannot explain what it is. She has practice again tonight and is excited. She was nervous about the first one, but still did it. I was the only mom who stayed in the classroom, though... DD says things like - she doesnt know the people putting on the play, so doesnt trust them, so doesnt want me to leave her. Anyone else's child this way?? Anyways, she is in the play Sunday, is excited and nervous. We have to be at the local Children's museum (where they are performing) ALL day. Wish us luck!! I will report back how it went!! (sadly, dh chose to go hunting for the full weekend, so wont be watching her. she is VERY disappointed, as am I.) Sharon
