Guest guest
I would write to Dr. Jenike who is open to such emails for his advice. I know little about PANDAS, but my son has had very high strep titers for a long time with a negative strep test by throat. We tried a therapeutic round of antibiotics anyway. It didn't make a difference for him. With him, medication for OCD and ERP therapy made the difference. When he goes off the medication, his OCD came back. While what you are writing about sounds interesting, I wonder what you are observing because PANDAS is supposedly caused by the lasting antibodies, which I thought takes a while to go away after the antibiotics. Pans/Pandas I had posted a while back that my son, at the time 6, suddenly starting having bad thought OCD/anxiety in December 2011. Didn't think he had strep at the time so Pandas wasn't really entertained. Did ERP therapy and had my son back within a short amount of time (Feb 2012). He started acting strange and having OCD thoughts again in April, ended up he had strep--took 2 rounds of heavy duty antibotics to get rid of it. Once he was on the medication, his OCD magically went away... Got me thinking. So he was OCD free again. He suddenly starting having tantrums and just acting really defiant and off last week. Told me he was having OCD again. Bring him to the dr last week, he had a " raging " ear infection. Back on antibotics, now he is my sweet child again and he told me his OCD is gone again. His current ped doesn't think he has pandas and is really fighting me about testing... but I consider you the experts. There has to be something about infection and his behavior. If everytime he gets antibotics in his system his behavior changes and he tells me his OCD is gone... there has to a link??!!?? Am I on to something here? Where do I go with this, any thoughts? A new ped doctor who is more open to Pandas? Do they have Panda specialists? Any help would be apprecaited! Thanks! Guest guest
Sure sounds like a link with PANDAS, and I would want to have it checked out. Have you tried bringing any literature on PANDAS from the ocfoundation website to your ped.? You may have to find another doctor who is more receptive. Are you familiar with www.latitudes.org? They have doctor names listed also. We do have information in our files on PANDAS. Jordana had a good idea about asking Dr. Jenike. You could also make a post to Dr., our group's psychiatrist. She is research based, worked at the ocfoundation centre with Dr.Jenike. Might even have a suggestion for where to go for treatment/doctor name. There are several parents who have gone through the PANDAS route, so hopefully some jump in soon. Or else you can make a more specific post with " request for info on PANDAS diag/treatment " Warmly, Barb > > I had posted a while back that my son, at the time 6, suddenly starting having bad thought OCD/anxiety in December 2011.
