Guest guest
You must show that you have confidence in him and the therapist. You, your son, and the therapist are all on the same team in fighting the OCD. The therapist is trying to get him to change how he deals with OCD and change is hard for everyone. When your son says he doesn't want to go, I would say firmly that you know he can beat the OCD and that the therapist is going to help him beat the OCD. It helps too if he has a good relationship with his psychiatrist because you can tell him that the doctor say this is what we must do. My son's pdoc always tells him that the research shows that CBT/ERP is the best way to tackle the OCD. Talking about the research seems to help my son. I don't know what is important for your son but if you know what is important to him, that would help too in convincing him. It is not easy. My son's therapist gave us a printout called Tips for Parents (pages 247-262) from the book OCD in Children and Adolescents: A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment Manual by March and Mulle. Ask your son's therpist if he can give you this. Very helpful informations. Roy-17. Guest guest
hi . my son said he will go to sint. petersberg for help ,after he went there for 2 days and did not care to go back.now he is on prozac 20mg for 2 weeks , he is so much not here same time it is killing me(i keep try to say to myself keep help him only,i hope to be there 3 day a week for long as he need to be able to function .the more i unterstend of OCD i get more scare of the reality,i dont see the end of the tunnel,i try to say yes will get better.it so hard to see him in pain as father,i know we going to good tretment but i tham time break and cry,he can not go to school ,lost all motivation (first time inmy life i do not understend you god. i will go on for him. jacob > > Yes, , my son is mild now (my guess - he has not had yale brown score done recently). He still has stuff for sure, but it USUALLY does not interfere with his life in any major way- there are bumps here and there mostly with perfectionism, and he has waht he calls " quirks " which are really OCD but at the level of dislikes more than he cant do something. He is a straight A student, and star athelete. He is king of the school ( very popular). All the kids know he is anxious about tests and schoolwork, but they are ok with it. They joke with him that he " asks his way through tests " . ( reassurance seeking), and is stingy ( hoarding) and strongly encourages them to wipe their feet at the door and acts like a jerk to other players on his own team if they dont make the play, but again, somehow he gets away with it all and stays really popular. > > He has school acomidations which at this point are mostly about testing ( alternate site and able to ask for reassurance and be helpe through a problem if necessary so he can go on and not get " stuck " . Also extra time . Test is graded with the knowledge of the input of the special ed person and if the reassurance seeking was about anxiety or content. ( Ie on algebra final he got a 96 but sought reassurance on about 50% of questions) > > He was diagnosed at age 3 and was SEVERE ( totally consumed) for about 5 years in 2 separate bouts each lasting about 2.5 years. Otherwise mild to moderate. Doing super well for last 3 years since USF program >
