Guest guest
So I guess we will still have PANDAS acronym and PANS. Was wondering about that, whether to always say PANS now. I'm glad, good to keep the strep cause separate I think, as strep is something so many children get; and throw the other possible causes under PANS. (So PANS takes the place of the former PITANDS?) > > This was released yesterday to help doctors and parents understand more about how infections can result in mental illness such as OCD. > > There is a written release and two PSA videos...one by Jenike and another by a parent of a PANDAS child. > > http://www.multivu.com/mnr/54781-ocd-foundation-pandas-psa-obsessive-compulsive-\ disorder >
Guest guest
This is my understanding. PANDAS will fall under PANS. PANS is for sudden onset OCD or eating disorders. Many infections could trigger it. PANDAS is for when that infection is strep. PANS does not include tics as a major criteria (although it can be a minor one. So for sudden onset tics or other sudden onset neuro-psych issues, PITAND would apply. IN addition to infections other than strep being triggers, I think a very worthy thing to note about PANS, is that it is not limited to per-pubescent onset. It can happen to teens as well. > > > > This was released yesterday to help doctors and parents understand more about how infections can result in mental illness such as OCD. > > > > There is a written release and two PSA videos...one by Jenike and another by a parent of a PANDAS child. > > > > http://www.multivu.com/mnr/54781-ocd-foundation-pandas-psa-obsessive-compulsive-\ disorder > > >
