Guest guest
Oh Jodi... I'm so sorry to hear about your son's suffering (and, of course, if our child is suffering, so are we). Is he getting CBT with ERP? That particular type of therapy is key to getting OCD under control (this isn't an opinion; it's been verified by very well-respected research). Meds can help, but CBT with ERP is essential. Of the books I read when my son got his OCD diagnosis, the most helpful for me was Dr. Tamar Chansky's Freeing Your Child from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Also helpful was Coping with OCD by Bruce Hyman and Troy Dufrene. Both are available used on Amazon.com. > Maybe someone has advice, i am really at the end of my rope.. diagnosed > around 4...my sons ocd haas been a whirlwind of different things, > mostly bad thoughts, transferring from one to the next. Guest guest
Hi Jodi and ((hugs)) I hate when they get so set/nagging on some things they just want, *have* to have...and that's even without OCD. (lol, talking about a non-OCD son of my own here) Wish I had a solution for that. Oh, really hate his OCD is causing him such misery. Is it *all* OCD, not sure about the Chiara and surgery, any downsides to that (you mentioned limits with exercising, etc). took Celexa. And yeah, could get sleepy at school, that wasn't uncommon from what I read from others who took it. We did give it at night too, hoping that would help; and maybe it did, may have kept him from being more sleepy. When he started it, it kept him awake, harder to get to sleep, but he said that passed after the initial effect. He did take naps after school. Even on a weekend day. Now, he was never an active kid before that either, couch potato; don't know how my other 2 sons who were active would have been effected if they had been on it. Celexa worked wonderful for his OCD, and as the only side effect for him it was just something we put up with. Also, it was around the 16th week on it that I felt it REALLY kicked in and he started showing faster improvement with his OCD. He was only on Celexa and didn't gain any weight, but he's the type that just doesn't gain, WAY too skinny/tall. > We switched him to > depakote and celexa.
