Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a Boston-based support group for parents of kids

with OCD? We live in Boston (Jamaica Plain), and are looking to meet other

parents who live in or near the city: e.g. Boston neighborhoods, Brookline,

Cambridge, Arlington, etc.

Our 11-year old daughter (our only child) was diagnosed with OCD several months

ago; she started suffering with it noticeably when school started in September.

Since preschool she has suffered from anxiety issues and probably bouts of less

obvious OCD. Currently, her anxiety level is generally high and on many/most

days her OCD is severe. The disorder has taken a huge toll on me (the primary

caretaker), my husband, and our cat, as well.

Since January, she has been in treatment at MGH's Child CBT Program located in

Alewife (Cambridge). She has made some progress (we no longer have school

nights where she is raging until 2 am), but she still has symptoms around the

clock when she is at home or away from company. She's very self-aware, and

socially anxious, and does her best to hide it from friends and non-family

members. Although she's still doing well in school, the OCD has affected some

aspects of her schoolwork and test-taking and has made her tardy almost every

day, so we are applying for accommodations from Boston Public Schools.

We would love to meet some local parents who also are struggling to get through

every day!

Thanks,

and in Jamaica Plain

Hi and ,

We have a PANDAS/PANS support group here in Salem. There is also one in Hanover.

Since OCD is a primary symptoms of both, there are many people there who can

certainly relate to what you are going through. I " d also be happy to talk with

you on the phone or meet with you other wise. My dd is currently in a pretty

good place, but I remember very vividly what it was like when her OCD interfered

with every aspect of her life and ours.

If you are interested in learning more about either of the support groups, let

me know.
