We've been doing some college tours, DD17 will start in a year. She is VERY

concerned about the bathroom/roommate/dorm situation. She's got contamination

fear OCD. She is very phobic about hairs that she may find (specifically pubic

looking hairs), and possible contamination from any sexual activity surrounding

her. She has never had a boyfriend or anything like that, is still a virgin. She

imagines people are having lots of sex and not cleaning up appropriately. She

worries her roommate will bring a guy to the dorm and have sex there. She has

told me she will never have sex. I tell her that's okay, one of her 2 brothers

will give me grandchildren.

We've been talking to her about the whole college/dorm thing. DH tells her that

it may actually be better to have communal bathrooms, as these get cleaned on a

regular schedule. I told her that yeah, and you have many toilets/showers to

choose from. If she gets a suite style dorm, the number of people using the

bathroom will be limited, but then someone has to clean the bathroom.

So she seemed to like the college we did on our last tour, until we looked at

the dorms. That seems to be the most important thing to her, ahhhhh. On the plus

side of college tours, I am glad to report that she is communicating with others

better. She was able to ask questions to those in charge. I think she has more

of a problem talking to her peers.

Vacation report: Our other summer vacation was meeting up with our BIL who

attends a 'mad scientist' type event every year, where they shoot rockets, blow

up things, etc. We've gone twice before and DD loves it, as she is a G-E-E-K

(and I say that in a loving, proud way.) Well, this year she caught the

attention of two other teen boys, and the three of them were hanging out

together most of the time. WOW - this is a HUGE step for her. I just keep

thinking that she just has to find her 'niche' of people and she will be fine

socially. We keep hoping she will blossom in college. She just loves Physics

(makes me thing of Aspergers, where they latch on to something) and will be

amongst other kids who are into Physics and science type things. We will be

doing another college tour on Friday, at a very small tech college. It may be a

good fit for her.....

Sorry I wrote so much! Drinking coffee and being lazy on vacation here...
