Guest guest
I LOVE KHAN Academy! We have used it for math, but there are other subjects as well in SHORT BITE SiZE lectures ( 3-10 min) on specific topics We do not home school but have used it as supplement for particular areas needing a little extra explanation. I have one OCDer and one ADDer (inattentive type when they used to type them). Works well for both. > > DS, Paxton, 13 1/2, going into 8th grade and has OCD, GAD, ADHD. Despite wonderful support from 2 public schools and 1 private school the last 2 1/2 years of school have been a nightmare for him and us. So we are going to home school this year. Wondering if anyone has ideas on if workbook/text learning or online/cd learning is best format for kid w/particularly ADHD. Thinking about the distractibility factor but also the over stimmed by too much TV/video game factor. Any thoughts? Thanks for any input, making my self ill trying to figure out the best thing...............................Larkellen > > Estate and Garage Sales Facebook Page > > www.estateandgaragesales.biz > > > > > ________________________________ > >
Guest guest
Think about hooking up with other homeschool families. We homeschooled one of our kids for half a year, back in 1997. He missed his friends and wanted to get back to school. Anyway, met lots of people in homeschool group who have resources to share and our group even had planned get togethers. I found it easier to do math and science type stuff, missed the discussions that go with english/social studies. Look into online learning through your school district. In WI, you can register with them as an alternative to reg. school district. No cost to you. Makes it alot easier on you if you don't have to figure out curriuculum.. With homeschooling, you can set up your schedule so he gets his work done in a much shorter time than reg. school. Also you can do volunteer work too. Don't know if you work but sometimes families work that out with each other, to accommodate work schedule. Good luck. in WI > > DS, Paxton, 13 1/2, going into 8th grade and has OCD, GAD, ADHD. Guest guest
, Missouri has no such online K 12 program so that is not an option here. I did check I do run a business but the time is flexible and I do intend to take him w/me a lot and be portable w/either books/work books and or a laptop for online learning. I am getting hooked up w/local home schoolers and there are plenty in the Columbia area plus I already knew lots through friends. Just trying to figure out the best format for learning for him Thanks for ideas...................................Larkellen Estate and Garage Sales Facebook Page www.estateandgaragesales.biz ________________________________ To: Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2012 12:44 PM Subject: Re: book vs cd learning Think about hooking up with other homeschool families. Guest guest
We homeschool our son who also has ADHD. We use a combination of computer and books. We take frequent breaks so that he can go outside and run around a bit. I also try to choose curriculum that is interesting for him as much as possible. You can do unit studies that have a theme, such as dinosaurs, and it will cover the reading, writing, spelling, and word definition. We use Math U See which also has some on line extras you can do. My son really enjoyed the on line site Time 4 Learning, but we didn't use that all the time. For us it seems to work better if we mix things up. . Hope this helps. Jan K. Guest guest
That does help Jan, I think that is the theme I am finding, to mix things up for him and allow plenty of breaks. Thanks so much.............................Larkellen Estate and Garage Sales Facebook Page www.estateandgaragesales.biz ________________________________ To: " " < > Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2012 4:14 AM Subject: Re: Re: book vs cd learning We homeschool our son who also has ADHD.
