Guest guest
For perfectionism ERP, we work on NOT being perfect and having other people tell him he is not perfect AS AN EXPOSURE (ie have it be planned, away form other people with time/room to melt down, chart pretask anxiety, and anxiety levels post task at 1,2,5,10 min etc)). We try to make alot of it " fun " . For example we make him try to take lacrosse shots on goal from an impossible distance, using his left hand and missing the goal even if he aimed at it. We have his coaches take him aside every game and practice (afterward) and tell him something he could do better ( as an exposure - he knows it is coming- again with charting etc- we keep repeating these things to him over and over and charting his anxiety). We read and re read the comments he has gotten from sports camps on things he could do better- again charting anxiety levels. We hand in incomplete or wrong homework, leave test questions blank, ( you have to cut a secret deal with the school on this one once they get grades so that there is a way to evaluate them). We dont fill in the margins evenly, hang christmas tree bulbs asymetrically. We do exposures on the the " just right " stuff which is really another form of perfectionism. I dont know specificly what perfectionism issues you are working with but basically you do exposures to undo what ever needs to be done perfectly. Does that help? If you give me specifics, I might have some thoughts on exposures you could try.
