Guest guest
My daughter (9) has been dx'd with ocd since september. Her ocd all came on very suddenly and she was barely functional in school. She has both just right and scrupulosity ocd. When she was first dx'd I did much research and read many books on how to treat ocd. I started doing my own cbt at home while we were waiting to get into see a therapist. We are now seeing someone once a week and have been for about 5 weeks. My daughter is now almost symptom free. If you were to have asked her 3 months ago on a scale from 1-10 (1 is worst 10 is best) how good was your day based on how many " bad " thoughts/worries you had she would have told you 2. Now when I ask her after school she will say it was a 10. She has no compulsions at this time and very little thoughts. Maybe 1-2 wk! PRAISE GOD! I am wondering in all your experiences can this be it? Could we really in this short amount of time (yet seems like a really long time) gotten on top of this ocd? In therapy we have not started ERP because the therapist is teaching her " tools " to deal with the thoughts. She wants her to be well prepared before we start ERP. My question is, since she is doing so well do you rock the boat and address these previous thoughts or let them go since they don't bother her anymore? My daughter has worked really hard at home with making ocd a third person and talking back to it!
Guest guest
Happy she is doing so well, great progress! I'll be interested in what others say, but I think if her thoughts are just 1-2 a week now with what she's now doing in therapy, why start ERP? Unless those particular thoughts are causing a lot of distress. I have some scrupe type thoughts, have since a teen, and I just shrug them off. My son (22) who has them, can't do this, his OCD is severe in this so I would think ERP would help him. (He's been in therapy for this before but therapist said he had poor insight; he also has Aspergers/autism). > > My daughter (9) has been dx'd with ocd since september.
