I contacted another pharmacy in the area, but have not heard back from them.

It's a pretty big/well-known pharmacy, so I think they would have a good idea

what can be done. I'm confused because when we were in the doctor's office, he

was on the phone with what I thought was the pharmacy he uses, and they

mentioned chewables....all of a sudden they can't do it? I should probably just

stay with the suppository. My son has always had issues with putting ANY kind of

medicine in his mouth - even the Tylenol that tastes like bubble gum! It might

be a better idea to just avoid the mouth area completely. ;) Thanks!

Re: Compounding SSRIs

Hi ,

Hmmm.... I only know about compounding for vitamins, and they are oral form.

Don't see why can't do the same for an ssri. May depend on particular ssri

though, and form it comes in, as some are capsules, not to be opened.

Have you tried contacting a compounding pharmacist yet? Or perhaps you can

contact the maker of prozak to see options of forms it can come in, Eli Lilly.

You'd think they would have come across this before, for kids in particular.

If it is in tablet form, and can be ground up, then you could mix it in maple

syrop, or juice or whatever.

Last thought, contact children's hospital and ask to speak with their pharmacist

- usually have a special name, can't think of right now, but person who handles

all the prescriptions distributed in the hospital, not just pharmacist.

Hopefully others have ideas.

Warmly,

Barb

direction...my son will not swallow pills, nor will he take liquid medicines. I

had heard there are pharmacies that will compound Prozac into chewable or even

gummy bear form. But we just visited the psychiatrist and were told that the

compounding pharmacies he knows of can compound only to rectal suppository form.
