Guest guest
He's 17. I'm glad you can relate. Is it something about bed/sleep/etc? Or just dreading the thing you have to do beforehand? And you've never got to where you say - " well, might as well just get it over with, I know I'll feel better tomorrow if I do it and go to bed " ? How do you keep it from ruining your life? are there ERPs that can be done to impact it? I find him nodding off at his computer when I come down in the morning. He will take melatonin once he's tired enough to go to bed, but that doesn't help much since he's already exhausted. I'm thinking of putting one in his supper - even if he gets too sleepy, maybe he will end up in bed! Rhonda Re: rituals getting in way of ERP How old is your son? I actually have had that problem ever since my OCD went out of control in college. As a 54 year old, even now, I stall going to bed because I feel the need to shower beforehand and showering is still so aversive to me, even though I don't do rituals in the shower anymore. -----Original Message-----
Guest guest
Well, let's see....I have contamination fears so I have this remaining need to shower before I go to my bed because I want it to be " uncontaminated " . I used to take showers that would go through the night when I was in college, but with treatment, my showers went down to about 30 mins. Still, I find showering aversive probably because of how it was for me back then. If he has rituals that he needs to do before bed, since it is getting to a time when he is really tired, it is probably really all too much to think about doing and he puts it off and then he is just too tired to do them at all. Perhaps you could get him to get ready for bed an hour or two earlier and then he can be on his computer. That's what works best for me. Re: Jordana - rituals getting in way of ERP He's 17. Guest guest
Yes, too tired, exactly. He still has to wash hands after using computer because his hands must be completely clean in case they touch his clothes during the night. Thanks for the idea, maybe I can hit on a variation that will work for him.
