Guest guest
Prozac can be a little activating and this may wear off in a couple of weeks. If not, call your doctor. Vyvanse and Prozac together may also be the culprit and you may need to switch to a nonstimulant for the ADHD Best wishes, Bonnie > > I feel like I just can't win! For years, my daughter has been plagued with obsessive thoughts. I just found out that she has OCD. They put her on Prozac and it is WONDERFUL!!! It is like I have MY child back. My whole family loves to talk. I am not sure if this is something I should punish her for or not. Is this something she can even control? Her teacher doesn't seem very sympathetic. I did not tell him that she has OCD, but I did tell him she has ADHD and has recently changed medications. But he didn't seem to care. >

Guest guest
It might be the prozac. Both times that our son started SSRI meds, he had a hyper side effect. And each time we raised the dose, it would happen again. It lasted for about 2-3 weeks, and would be the worst for a period of hours after he took his medication. It eventually stopped, once we got him to a point that he was helped by the meds and we stopped messing with the dosage. I hope that is the case for you too. I know that some in here have shared that it was hard to find a balance with those who suffered from OCD and ADD, or ADHD. BJ > > I feel like I just can't win! Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. That helps me a lot. She has barely been on the medicine for two weeks so maybe she will even out some. I really enjoy this " burst of energy " . After seeing her so upset and shut off for so many years, it is honestly like I have my child back. She is so smart, compassionate, and creative!!! I just love all of those things about her and I know it is difficult to control a classroom of 30 adolescents, but I sure wish the teachers could open their eyes and appreciate these things about her also. I know...I'm wishing the world could see through rose-colored glasses. > > > > I feel like I just can't win! For years, my daughter has been plagued with obsessive thoughts. Guest guest
, if things don't settle down with the talking soon, is it a psychiatrist prescribing for her or the family doctor? Hopefully either will have some experience at trying to balance out the meds. I've also read from others where some ADHD meds aggravate the OCD and vice-versa, so finding a right balance of dosage at first is hard, or maybe having to switch one med, etc. If it doesn't settle, you might do a post for " Ask Dr. Geller " and ask his thoughts about those 2 meds, he advises our group about medications. Fingers crossed her talking settles down since the teacher is calling! > > I feel like I just can't win! For years, my daughter has been plagued with obsessive thoughts. Guest guest
Hi Chris! Thank you for your comments. It is her family doctor that is doing the prescribing. She went to a pediatric psychiatrist here for about six months, but the doctor put her on a medication that was not recommended for children (unknowingly to me at the time) and after talking to her pediatrician we decided that the pediatrician herself could handle the medication as long as we had a therapist to handle the rest. I am going to give it a week or two for the medication to level out and see if she is still hyper. If she is, I will see if her doctor can adjust her medication. If we continue to have problems I just might do the " Ask Dr. Geller " post. I am so happy to see my child joyful right now and I guess I can handle a few phone calls from the teacher if in the long run, my daughter is happy and still learning. > > > > I feel like I just can't win! Guest guest
Yeah, happy and talkative and OCD better -- maybe not so hard a choice on which to treat, but hope her schoolwork is still going well with the ADHD symptoms.
