So the farmer puts out the money for the project then gets the 75% back. Guest guest
Betsy, Are you opposed to farmers making good conservation practices part of their operations? Would you have them plow from fence row to fence row or stream bank to stream bank? Here in NC we reqularly award EQIP monies to regular everyday farmers, small and large. They are conservation minded individuals who believe that improvement in wildlife habitat and water quality are important emough to spend their money on if need be. Most of the benefits devolve to the general public, but it does pay off for the farmer as well. Guest guest
Just making an observation. (I also forgot there are thin skins here as well. :-) <relax, insert 'breathe and smile' here.> But, really, how many small farmers can pull their $10,000 matching funds out right now without going into some debt? I do not know any. A few hundred dollars, yes. But not something to get them ahead fast like a big corp. Those big corps take advantage of what was meant for the small man. Guest guest
> Bill, > I missed the part of Betsy's post where she was criticizing conservation. Right. I was pointing out that the 'big guy' was taking advantage of a government program that is supposedly intended to help the 'little man'.
