Guest guest
Hey, Shay. My daughter has great difficulty in getting out the words from her heart. Even as I type she's sitting near me coloring & saying entire scripts from www.crayola.com on how to do various projects. She has no problem saying all of that like a DVD; but she has great difficulty in telling me her likes/dislikes, what happened at school, etc. She just looked me right in the eyes & started singing some song from Phineas & Ferb; she does not make eye contact when I'm talking to her about most things. Maybe it's a way to hear/comprehend better. The cool thing is seeing how she reacts when she gets out a thought in a typical way. She shows such pride. Guest guest
Hey Deb, Thank you for your reply. My daughter expresses herself through drawing. I remember as a little girl in IEP at the age of 3. The ladies would go on about how she was so detailed in drawing. They couldn't believe that a 3yr old would draw fingers and such on a person or lips, eyes and such. They were impressed. My daughter has been drawing since 2 even though she didn't speak. My daughter does alot of mumbling, slurring, and alot of " I don't know " then says, its gone I don't know. She is always forgetting what she wants to tell me. Her sentences are never full or complete. For example most kids if asked what they did today will give a few descriptions. My daughter will sit with a blank stare as you can see her taking a journey into her day, but really can't explain. She may say something like " I draw " Now sometimes she can carry on a conversation of her interest, but it will be long, drawn out, and most I don't understand what she is saying, cause words are blended together and such. But such a beautiful Spirit. Alot of people try to hug her, She doesn't like to hug or be grabbed. She just kind of shrugs and tolerates to avoid hurting the feelings of those that do it. There are many other things. I will show you some of her drawings sometime if you like. When you mentioned about your daughter and how she can repeat things from DVD's and such. My son is the same way. He will come out and give me full scripts, but you ask him something like how do you feel? It will always be I don't know, everytime. Talk soon and thank you for your kind e-mail! Sincerely Shay --------------------------------- You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost.
