Guest guest
Here's my 2 cents...I am the youngest of 5 children, my oldest brother has never been diagnosed but I am sure he is on the spectrum (Aspergers), very high functioning. I have 9 nieces and nephews and two children, my oldest daughter (4-1/2) has it, my son (18 mo) does not. I would say you have a very good chance of having a NT child. I really feel because of the high level my daughter is, although not Aspergers, I feel it is something in their chemistry. She had a fragile x test that came out fine, but we recently found out she has Cadmium metal poisoning. Okay, question back to everyone, what stomach/digestive issues do your kids have? I am wondering if there is more going on than I know. My Kaylin is so healthy she amazes us all (including her teachers) and never seems to have stomach issues. But sometimes her stools are very yellow. Am I missing someting? Guest guest
Angie i to found this to be of true too as some with autism seem to be more over all healthier than most even those who are of typical. I to know of one girl I to use to shadow and she in the 3 years i to worked for her was maybe only sick one day in those three years, where as for me I to be of opposite and sickly much so. even since being of a young child. I to be had been given a dx of colitis when was of a teenager and i to have much gut issues. nothing has been found as a medical causes of it as of yet outside that early dx of colitis, so they dx of it as IBS. I to have of much health issues and some have been of dx of this last year or so as sjogrens disease and fibromyalgia and they are of suspect of lupus but it has not been of an offical dx to me. I to have of much bloating, digesting issues, sour tummy and heartburns, and gas and tummy pains along with diarhea. I to get much nausea more so lately and it is of one of the causes of some weight lost for me. i to use to wear of size 8 in pants and now in size of 6 but they are of too big in the waist areas for me now. I to recently buyed of me some skorts which is of new for me as never weared any sort of dress or skirt in much years and so tried of it for me to give of me more over all comfort and yet the 6 is of too much big and cause of me to feel as if they are of going to come off of me. I to be of sharing this because of the health is of so much a mystery things to me too but I to seek much from those who understand here to help of me in my health things. i to recently took of ones thinking to try of melatonin and this one things has been to help of me sleep so much better than ever in the life of me and I to find that many with ASD do not sleep well and poor sleep can interfer with learning and health so i to be of trying to reverse some of this in me by trying to learn how to sleep more into that deep sleep. Guest guest
Dont feel as though it is you...I often wonder if I had another child with someone else would it be autistic. There are genetic links I dont doubt, but there are also triggers and things that I feel set off the autism and severity of it. Guest guest
Heck, why did only 1 of my 3 girls, all by the same father, get autism? Sometimes I feel like even the fish have autism. My parenternal grandmother's half-sister's grandson has severe autism & seizures, my daughter mild/moderate with biomedical presentation no known seizures, one other possible asperger syndrome; why is it between about 30 of use offspring are only two with autism, far more of the 30 just annoying?...I dunno. On mother's side far less offspring, many more nuts in the family. Lol, hope that isn't offensive to anyone, just that I have an insane family!!!!! Guest guest
I agree about the family craziness, sometimes I look at my daughter and compare her to my nieces and nephews (sometimes even my own son- he is a handful!) and think how good she is...I would pick her out of the line up of all of them to take home and care for!!! I just feel sad that I can't tell if she is really in pain or not, and I really just want her to have a great life. Guest guest
LOL. I love that others wonder about their family heritage...here's MY SIDE of the family: me ADD (not formally DX but do we really need a degree to figure this out? I have all but like one couple indicators) my brothers, one ADHD/ODD one schizophrenia/bipolar. Mt mom has OCD, trying to figure out if dad has aspergers (sp?) or is just a jerk. My dad's brothers, one has schizophrenia, the other Legg perthes disease as well as tendons the tear easily, and now is crippled from calcification of the spinal column in his neck (pinches all the nerves for his whole body). Oh, let's see, my youngest brother also suffers from brachialplexus neuropathy (hereditary) which is a bad name because it is a genetic disease (my dad's side) that causes temp-permanent (partial - complete) paralysis, most frequently of the arms, but affected my grandmother's legs too. My mom's side anxiety, depression, suicide attempts, and my mom is the only one who doesn't have diabetes....We could go back further with the family history, but I don't think we need too....Her dad's side is nearly as colorful... ....but everyone I know has crazy and sick people in their family. There is no wonder why I chose psychology as a major... I don't know if any of you watched Designing Women, way back when, but and had a brother that spent a lot of time in a " hospital " . Long story short, someone was nasty about his mental illness and says something like, Down here in the South, We're PROUD of our crazy people " ....I always loved that line. Have you seen the couple that has like 6 kids on the spectrum (the short clip I've seen makes me wish my kid was as mild as some of their's, none the less) if you have 6 kids that all have it, I think then you can question yourself...until then you have to remember there is a reason GOD chose you! Guest guest
Yeah, and to add to the craziness of my family, during some genealogy puzzle pieces I found my mom & dad were unknown fourth cousins, there were known marriages to cousins in my ascension from about 1840 on back. So now I'm my own cousin, and a cousin-mom to my kids. I ain't figured out how to make me my own grandma yet, though. Seriously though, after reading that study about related people in the Middle East, it does make me wonder if Allie'g genes are turned off somehow inside, just waiting for the switch to be flicked. If the family tree doesn't fork....you might be a redneck. Debi, the redneck!
