Guest guest
Hi Debi   Are you really sure we aint related.. My aunt and uncle are first cousins , they didnt find out till they announced there engagment and the fact they were expecting.. Ummm ooops a lil late I think.....  Can Aussie's be rednecks?  LMAO  in Aus Subject: Re: IS IT ME? To: Autism_in_Girls Received: Thursday, 17 July, 2008, 3:00 AM Yeah, and to add to the craziness of my family, during some genealogy puzzle pieces I found my mom & dad were unknown fourth cousins, there were known marriages to cousins in my ascension from about 1840 on back. So now I'm my own cousin, and a cousin-mom to my kids. I ain't figured out how to make me my own grandma yet, though. Seriously though, after reading that study about related people in the Middle East, it does make me wonder if Allie'g genes are turned off somehow inside, just waiting for the switch to be flicked. If the family tree doesn't fork....you might be a redneck. Debi, the redneck! Guest guest
>i say my eggs and his sperm should never had met...lol > > Cheryl S [chez] > > My husband and I have always said that, since we both have family members with autistic spectrum disorders. It's on both sides of my family, actually. Just one side of his. But, so far, so good, none of our kids are autistic. (And none of my relatives were diagnosed until AFTER I was already working in this field, oddly enough. I'm quite a bit older than all of my cousins). My oldest son is not your average kid...he has a lot of quirks and if he hadn't talked so ridiculously early (7.5 months and hasn't stopped since), we probably would have been a lot more concerned. My husband wanted him evaluated at one point (and he has since been part of studies done at the MIND Institute as part of their NT control groups, which involved some evaluations, which put my husband's mind more at ease). He is almost 5 and still walks on his toes and hand flaps, although less now than he did when he was younger. He had a meltdown and wouldn't eat tonight because there was spinach on his plate, rendering the entire meal inedible. He freaks out with even mildly loud noises. Honestly, I am going to be interested to see how HIS kids turn out (and I know I'll be watching them very carefully!). Amnesty

Guest guest
amnesty my own son michael was of an early talker and so was of my aimee, but with micheal hims words were of not developmentally normal in the ways others use words such as he may not have sayed mom or dad or words like that before hims first birthday but if the phone rang he always just like the rainman say " UT OH phone " or if a button was missing on you clothings he would be to say the same " UT OH broke " he did not flap per say but he had of very stiff arms and body and then would finger wave and flick when speaking. He often had of a mouth swiping sort of stim, as he later shared to us he did not like hims lips to get wet [from hims own slavia} so he was of constantly swiping of the mouth to dry them. but he was severely sensory defensive to most things such as sight, smell, movement of hims own body, touch, and many sounds that to him whirled like a remote control car and things of that hurt of hims ears. he had much adversions to touching and holding things especially anything metal. He shared metal hurt hims eyes, skin and makes of the food all taste like a spoon. he was of a constant safety factor because of the wandering, and he lacked safe thinkings, he also at one point kept of telling us around age of 4 he was of a super hero maked of wood and indestructable who could fly. he spoke robotic and in the begin we feared he was showing us childhood schizophrenia because he also growled and told the voices out there the to " shut up " . He had no imaginative play, he lined up things and then with one object knowcked them back down one at a time and did this for hours and then he fell into the love of the ninja turtles and then it went to power rangers. he has of a language like an encyclopedia. such as a cocoon was of to be sayed right and be called crystalist. and radar for bats was to be called echolocations. now he is of 17 and one cant tell of the aspergers until he lets you into hims world and you get to know of him more and see of him in multiple settings, but he is still loud and impulsive. he still walks with a stiff gait and he still gives very fleeting eye contact. He is brilliant with sketching characters he creates which to some appear to be of the dark side what ever that means but they have shared they are of concern to this sort of drawing but he is of not bad, he just likes the mideveil dragonslayer sort of era and so creates characters of that sort and he has of art that is of blended with much emotional abstract thinkings of it he understands its meaning but he struggles to interpret it to others and often will say it has no meaning to avoid the issues of having to interpret of it. But anyways some of what you son does sounds some like my michael to a degree as a younger child of maybe age 4-6, but mikey had of much more pronounced behavioral things that maked him stand out. Of course the schools coiuld not see it for what it was and a Dr. Hammar from my areas actually sended a team to hims school and observed much , much aspergers like issues the school denied were of issues to the papers, but the team saw of them in the one day of him being there, such as hims fixation to teh ninja turtles, hims lack of interacting at all with any peers, and no peers interacted with him either, and he did the finger flicking and he was often centered out to be punished for hims lack of following the rules, he lacked what the rules were beccause they were of the hidden rules that most kids on the spectrum do not understand internally , they can script them back but lack how to respond to the rules internally because it is of not a thing they can visualize and transfer often to the world around them. many of us are blind to our own beings but can see of the others and this was of mike he did see others violating rules and was like a little police man to some extent, but he couldnot see when he broke the laws. There are definitely some things that Rory does that have made me wonder...but I talked to his doctor and a child psych that I know and they both feel that his issues are all consistent with highly gifted kids. I know Micheal is incredibly intelligent too, which is probably where they seem similar. Rory has excellent social skills, except that he is bossy, but I think that's because he's an oldest child (and he thinks he knows everything, lol).
