Guest guest
Rhonda, as you prob. read, it is an anti-psychotic so I guess if they thought he was having delusions, that is why they gave him the risp. As far as my experience, it is used for schizo, BP, and kids on the autistic spectrum. I have seen it work pretty well with some kids at work on the spectrum that would have extreme reactions/meltdowns. Seemed to keep them steadier. They put on .5 and then 2 mg. Like I said, knocked him out and he couldn't think. From my reading, it is more for the BP 2 and not the BP 1 like . He didn't cycle alot, just classic BP, which is why Lithium worked for him. Did they give your son BP diagnosis, just curious. It does not sound like he has a classic thought disorder. He prob. would have refused to put the clothes on b/c he thought the people were out to get him or some type of delusion, hearing voices. I have thought with my OCD son that sometimes it is hard to tell if he has a thought disorder or something beyond OCD/anxiety, like when he didn't like his picture he drew and was in the front yard burning it. He would get in a daze, almost like catatonia, get all stiff like a robot and then blow. It almost sounds like they want you to use the Ris. as needed. I guess I would call the nurse that works with your pdoc and see if maybe you don't need this now. We also tried Empower plus vit. b/c was so against med. We didn't have luck but some people do. They can be kind of pricey but med. can be expensive too. Just a thought. > > > That is so encouraging! Thanks for sharing and bravo for you and your daughter! Could you share the process your daughter used to get off the meds? My son's are kicking in more every day & he's looking so sleepy - I would like to know how to try cutting back. > > > > > > Rhonda > > > > > > Re: Coming off of Prozac after 7 yrs, great successes fighting back OCD & a question > > > > > > > > > > > > My daughter decided at age 18 to go off her medication after about 8 or > > > 9 years - meds for Tourette's Syndrome, OCD, and ADHD. Guest guest
Rhonda, it's great to hear how well your son is doing, he's actually come a long way in a short amount of time. Hope the med adjustment (Risperdal) goes well with a lower dose if you try it. > > They gave Risp in the inpatient as soon as he arrived and didn't want to put on the clothes that I brought for him. Started at .25. He did fine on that until Dad came into unit, then he wouldn't go to bed, so they added .25 in morning and he calmed back down. Then Dad went into bedroom on unit and son wouldn't go to bed and they added .25 more.
