Guest guest
lisa although adhd meds may cause some anxiety and are avoided at times for fear of increasing ocd, that is not always the case. many kids with ocd, in particular boys, also have some adhd symptoms and can really benefit from stimulants after the ocd is treated alternatives include clomipramine and strattera that can help attention I often treat the adhd symptoms once ocd is controlled IF I am convinced there is genuine adhd present dg > Dear Dr. Geller, > > My 14 year old son is currently taking 400mg of Luvox for his OCD & it seems to be keeping the symptoms at bay. He is in 8th grade and really having a difficult time concentrating in class. (He has had this problem to a very small degree in the past -but didn't interfere with his grades) He says he can pay attention for about 10 minutes and then he looses focus. Per his MD we lowered the Luvox to 300mg to see if perhaps the meds were causing the lack of focus. It doesn't appear to be helping with focus - and the OCD symptoms are creeping back. He is on Luvox because Zoloft made him depressed. > > His MD (Dr. at CWRU-University Hospitals Cleveland) says that the ADHD meds create more anxiety and therefore can't be treated along with OCD. > > We are most gratefuly for your input. > > Warmly, > >
