Guest guest
Hi, we sell our milk bulk to agric-pimps (I like that!) because if we sell direct we had better have enough buyers because they 'pimps' will either drop us or give us bottom dollar for our milk. It's scary for dairy farmers to depend solely on direct sales when the 'pimps' give next to nothing but at least it's a steady, dependable check coming every two weeks. Hard to pay those grain and fuel prices with out that steady paycheck. For a small dairy like us - we are trying to sell direct and as long as it's not in the local stores competing with our 'pimps' products they will not drop us or our milk price. lizWmR@... wrote: I used to get my raw milk from Whole Foods in Glendale, CA. They were charging 7.99 a half gallon. (over 16.00 a gallon after taxes) This is Organic Pastures milk. I just can't justify that much. I called Organic Pastures and they got me in touch with a local guy who gets deliveries directly from the company. It's not ideal as the milk is now 11.00 a gallon, but I'm willing to pay that much.I thought that the farmers were getting a heafty break by not selling their milk to the agri-pimps where they get paid a pittance for pooling the milk for paseurization. Selling directly should make it much more profitable for the farmers even at store rates. Is there another aspect I'm missing? Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
