Guest guest
Hi. My DD10 can not go to sleep. She has had this problem for years. Her thoughts bombard her at night. We had been giving her Melatonin and that worked for a year. Not any more. She hates to take medication, even though she is on zoloft for the OCD/anxiety and daytrana for ADD every day. Those are a battle in themselves. The psychiatrist prescribed klonopin for night time but she refuses to take it. She is afraid she won't ever wake up if she takes it. Consequently she is up until 1am some nights or later. She is running on empty, which makes her anger that much worse. She is in summer camp now and she tells me she falls asleep on the bus every day to and from camp. I'm very concerned that when school starts we are in for big problems with her lack of sleep and trying to learn. Does anyone have this problem? Any ideas for helping her? Thank you!! Guest guest
Can you give her the medication without telling her that it is for sleep. Just tell her that it is to stop her racing thoughts, which it is. My son has the problem that his med wakes him up very early, which is a possible side effect, so we compensate by having him go to sleep a bit earlier. For him, though, the relief from the med is so worth any sleep issues. I find that I have major sleep issues when I am on my medication, but it is so worth it because I have a good quality of life from the med which I wouldn't have otherwise. No Sleep : ( Hi.
