Guest guest
Hi All, I have not been on this site in a while but I wanted to get back and give some positive feedback. My son was diagnosed with OCD last September - he is 10yrs old. It started out with general snxiety (not wanting to leave me,etc). We got him into therapy in Sept 2011 however his OCD hit the roof in January of this year and he was non-functional. Therapy alone was not working for him. The therapist suggested we go see a psychiatrist as she felt he needed " a leg up " with a combo of meds and therapy. My son was put on Sertraline (Zoloft) at 25mgs and the doage increased over the past several months. He is now on 150mgs, and WOW he is almost back to his old self. We were very reluctant to put him on medication because of his age BUT after extensive research and weighting the pros and cons, we decided this was the right thing to do. He had some diarrhea and did not gain one pound to date. He is on the thin side and is slightly above average for height. We have had labs done and his blood work came back perfect. His compulsions are almost at zero and he is really trying to work this out on his own which I give him so much credit for. We are seeing a new therapist but my son is not responding to well to the theapy. We are still trying to find that right fit. The therapist said that my son might not be ready for ERP at this time however he feels he can benefit from being in therspy. Bottom line we are not out of the woods yet but there is hope. My son (and the family) have been thru hell and back and from where we are today it is a true blessing. Again, I feel it is important to share the good news when it happens as we tend to foget to do this when things start going well. I wish everyone the best, we sre all in this together.
