Guest guest
Wanted to post a little bit of good news, for once! It's been a month now since my son was admitted to 's. Fingers (and toes!) crossed that this continues, but he gained 2 lbs. this past week, yay! The have implemented a " scaled eating plant, " the way it works is if he eats 50% of his meal he drinks a full Ensure, 75% of meal, 1/2 Ensure, and 100% of meal eaten, no Ensure. He's not loving the plan (or the Ensure!), but seems to be managing okay so far. He said that the showers are getting a little less stressful for him, which is huge. They are still very difficult, but the fact that he said they are a little less stressful is a big deal. He has to take showers every other day now. He's still struggling a lot with his tics and yesterday he told me his tic is changing and he's stuttering and holding his breath, so that's not wonderful, but hopefully it will pass soon. His tics seem to change every few months or so on average and we never know what's next on the tic agenda! He isn't yet able to participate in group therapy or go down to the cafeteria to eat with the kids because it's too stressful, but he did give a try to going outside for experiential therapy a few times this week, which is great. He's moving at a snail's pace, but at least he seems to be going in the right direction The national Tourette's association is having their bi-annual conference right here in town next week and I am so looking forward to going! It will be a great opportunity for me to meet some specialists and attend seminars on TS as well as gather information and meet other parents and kids with TS. My next big hurdle is having to approach our school district to hopefully obtain funding for my son to attend a therapeutic boarding school this fall. Although we don't know for sure at this juncture if he'll need it, 's feels it's a pretty likely scenario so I have to hop on it immediately if there is any hope of obtaining funding.
