Guest guest
me too, it helped us to lower the dose. He also fights the tiredenss so we have our bedtime ritual. Small dose then wait 20 mins to half hour then go body brush teeth and go read a book, he looks at the book and we talk about the pictures in the book then turn off the light and turn on the sound maker and lay together. On a good night he dozes off within 5 mins, other night he may fight it for 15 minutes. Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
We use melatonin everyday, long-term and when I first gave my 8 year old daughter 1mg, it worked great, but then lost its effectiveness. I increased to 2mg and it worked great, then lost its effectiveness again. Then I increased to 3mg and it has worked well at that amount for the last 6-9 months but not as "magically" as at the beginning. So far, no need to increase. Any attempt to "trick" her and giving her a lower dose and she stays awake wondering why she can't fall asleep. My 3 year old daughter is on 1 mg and has not needed to increase. My son is on 2.5 mg, and it works fine for him so far. If he wakes up screaming hysterically and is very upset, the melatonin will have no effect. He needs to be calm or at least in a "happy" mood. Guest guest
Some kids might react negatively to it (although I don't think I know of any) but it's not addictive, not dangerous, and one of the reasons our kids need it is because many have low seratonin production which is required to make melatonin. Low seratonin=low melatonin. There are many reasons why they might not be producing enough seratonin to convert to melatonin (yeast, bacterial, etc). In my son it seems to be yeast and possibly food intolerance. There is some question as to how it affects hormones but there is nothing definitive as of yet that I'm aware of, at least.CherylDoes melatonin have any side effects ? Is it addictive ?Apologize for these basic questions, I am relatively new to this world ..:(My little one is on spectrum and he is 3.5yrs old. He use to have frequent sleep problems. After removing his afternoon nap things were better, but he would sleep 8 hrs from 8pm to 4am,and he is ready/fresh to play at 4am !!~DS Re: MelatoninWe use melatonin everyday, long-term and when I first gave my 8 year old daughter 1mg, it worked great, but then lost its effectiveness. Guest guest
Mine is one of the few who couldn't tolerate melatonin. We several times and even at low doses it just wasn't for her. She would crash minutes after taking it...then she would wake up a few hours later ready to go. Even when she did sleep through the night she was not a happy camper the next day. I tried it myself and had a similar experience. I felt really drowsy the next and not "with it". Give it to my son sometimes with no problems though. Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in and say we have been using Melatonin in pill form for 3 years. It works wonders, no hangover and is safe. You can get it in the vitamin dept. of most stores. Benedryl has a drying agent and on young children can have the exact opposite effect and make them more excitable. Beth in Houston
