Guest guest
We had a clothing obsession back when my son was 3-5 years old. VEry bad- would take hours to dress, and also obsessed with laundry (other direction- nothing was allowed to be washed and he would cry the whole time it was being done because it was out of his room where it belonged). I also agree it sounds like OCD to me. OCD is very sneaky and wrangles itself in slowly. 13 years into this disease, I still constantly find myself saying " oh, yeah, I should have seen this coming months ago when he started…… " Some obsessions/compulsions go away, new ones come. I think what is behind it, the underlying cause is simple- it is OCD. What to do about it, no that is a bother story. Time to start clothing exposures. Remember that clothing exposures are NOT done as you are ready to leave for school or work. They are done as separate events for discrete time periods of wearing the " wrong " thing. YOur therapist should be able to help you with this one. It really is pretty easy( though miserable ) to treat.
