Guest guest
I guess it's no surprise that I have a child with OCD and generalized anxiety disorder. She probably gets it from me because I worry all the time. What worries me now are her obsessions. Her compulsions are under control, but now she seems obsessed with anything scary or anything to do with death or killing people. She tells me she would never do anything like that but she just thinks it is interesting. I don't see her as ever doing anything violent, but still...some of the stuff she wants to read is very disturbing. And don't get me started on school. She is doing terrible in school right now and I feel like a horrible mother because I can't seem to help her get a grasp on things. She is going off of Prozac starting next Tuesday. I am hoping that she will be able to get control over things with just her exposure therapy because I think the Prozac just amplifies her ADHD. Not really wanting advice. Just posting to get it all of my chest.
Guest guest
I guess I should know this already, but does Prozac really amplify ADHD? My son has both OCD and ADHD and so far we've had trouble with medication (mostly because he's terrified of swallowing pills. I've been told that if Sertraline (Zoloft) didn't work then maybe Prozac would. His ADHD is really bad, so it would be good to know if I should steer clear of Prozac should we ever try the medication route again. just worried I guess it's no surprise that I have a child with OCD and generalized anxiety disorder. Guest guest
RE the school part- do you have a 504? I know that we were really having some struggles with homework and tests at school but now that we have some accommodations in place things are more manageable. His teacher, for example, gives him his weekly vocab test that he can take at the beginning of the week and do at his own pace throughout the week. He also has extended timing on tests since the pressure of testing really was shutting him down. We are still muddling through and trying to figure out what med will work for our guy. He has OCD and this has also resulted in a depressed mood. He had a bad reaction to the SSRI's and did get activated...but this seems to be more uncommon than common. Many kids do great on prozac and SSRI's are the med of choice for OCD. Zoloft has a shorter half life, so if you are worried about activation, it will clear his system sooner than prozac will if you need to go off. We are currently trying trileptal to attempt to treat the mood and hope that the ocd will become more muted but at this point we are seeing no effects one way or another which feels discouraging. At least he is not having adverse effects this time. It is so exhausting and although I logically know I am not a bad mother, I have my moments where I feel so powerless and blame myself (I have OCD) for his suffering. Hang in there. I find this board to help decrease my sense of isolation and people are always willing to share their experiences which is helpful. > > I guess I should know this already, but does Prozac really amplify ADHD?
