My daughter is almost 14 and has somethings which must be done, or all heck breaks lose, sometimes now i stand up to her, sometimes succeeding, sometimes not. We are having an issue with her hair at present, she wanted to grow it, so we let her, now she has it in her mind that she can only tie it back for school, so all the other times, it is flopping over her face everywhere, and its the greatest brusher, i keep threatening her that we will get it cut short if she cannot care for it.....hoping eventually in time she will realise what we mean, and why we want it for her.....wish i had never tried the long hair thing at all..... My three year old daughter has been having raging obessive behavior the last couple of days. She did eat some wheat and dairy and peanuts a couple days ago. I hope thats what caused it. So I put her on a cf/gf diet again, but I am not sure if it's bad for her to indulge in her obessions??She wants to sit in her car seat, or on this chair I have. She doesn't really want to do much else except maybe eat and watch Elmo. She also is not sleeping much, which I'm sure is not helping. How have other parents handled this?? _________________________________________________________________ It's simple! Guest guest
It is of the coordination of motor planning and for me cant seem to brush of my hair and coordinate of my hands because for me cant see of my head and so cant understsand how to coodinate what i to not be of able to see. if I to look into a mirror it causes me to do the opposite so instead of to comb back wards will come hair forward so that is of not a good source of help but I to use of hte mirror to check to see if I to did a good job to my hair. the brushing of the dolls hair might be of a good learning things but it will be transfering it. because for me I to need to FEEL how it Feels when I to be of doing a task and so if cant feel the task it does not in time get processed and learned within me. Oddly even to this day my right hand has to be on my head and holding my head as a way to get a stronger sense of feeling my head as I to brush with my right hand and do of my hair and when I to do of the left side of me, the left hand hoovers over the left side of my head. it is of odd and yet this is of how I to process of things. but it works for me and this is of the only way I to be of able to brush of my hair. For me personally though would not feel as if for me brushing of the dolls hair will teach of me but it did teach of me how to do my childrens hair because that was of a very different concept as I to be of able to see of their heads and so could see of my hands and manipulate of the hair and things for them, but to do it to my own head and could not see of it , it took of me much long time to learn of it from the feeling of how it felt to be to do this and with much practice it took of me years to finally be of able to do simple pony tails and things but not much good outside of that in my own hair. sondra

Guest guest
I to think too if had been of given a sensory input that was of enjoyable and took of my attention away to where I to be of more hyper focused to the sensory input than the overload of hyper focus to my hair being of brushed might have worked but since none was ever given to me it caused my brain to hyper respond to the sensations of my hair being riped off my head LOL/ sondra

Guest guest
The sleeping part I may be able to help with. They now make weighted blankets that children who are over stimulated are benifited by. They tend to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep longer with them. Â My mom did not have this option when I was a child. She did used to wrap me up tightly or tuck my sheet and or blanket in around the edges of the bed tight. This would at least help with getting me to go to sleep. Â The feeling of weight and tightness allowed for my brain to focus on the physical stimulation of these aspects more that the other things that were over stimulating me. Â I have also heard that low doses of melatonin helps children that do not sleep much. Guest guest
jessica, I to just be of started to use of meletonin and feel it is of showing maybe promise to me of to sleep. but for me I to like of much weight too and like of to sleep with pillow between my knees or legs and sleep with stuffed animals and certain soft blankets. I to ahve a strong sleep ritual and routines to be of to get my body to that just right state before can go to sleep before the meletonin. I to need to feel grounded and weighted down this is of why I to relates so much to the martian child video of hims needs to strap batteries to hims belt for the need to not feel floaty. I to feel much day dreamy and or floaty in life and so this causes for me to also feel over stimulated and over responsive/reactive to much things. I to be of hyper sensitive to many things and cant seem to really find a calm in life because of that overwhelming feeling to me. some of the things I to know to be fo true to me is cant have stimulating inputs within the hour or two of bed time such as cant eat , or have stimulating movie or noise or movements and things of this. But I to need of my TV to be fo just right in voice tones and volume and color mostly prefer of black and white films to sleep with. Important to me to have the right temperature too I to need of the room to be of much cool but with blankets, cant be of too hot or too cold or will not be of able to sleep. Epsom salt baths are of a good option too for me if getting too stuck into my OCD like behaviors or not finding calm within me. I to also need to watch of diet and limit for me certain dairies, and I to need to not eat foods with red dyes. I to need to eat a snack of good protein or fiber and drink of much bottle waters for me a day. I to also be on a drug called plaquenil being used for suspect of Lupus even though the blood work is not showing of that , but the doctor put of me on it and it has been to show of me good benefit and so when I to had to suddenly not be of able to fill the prescription recently it caused me to go into a much strong flare of all my symptoms and now understand of why had been of so much not right this last few weeks, and then the husband picked up the prescription for me two days ago and already seeing some improvements again. I to also be on neurontin at 400 mg 3x a day and they are of slowling increasing of that over time. but sometimes for no reason understood by me it appears my body is responding asd though it hasd taken too much medicines and not understand of that but then it goes away and the body is okay again. but anyways sometimes if pain is of present or getting sick the first things that go is of my sleep and language ability and I to find of self with more agitations and behaviors of meltdowns and such as if cant cope anythings in life then after a few days of that I to find of self running fevers and or showing measurable signs of sick. So for some of us when we cycle out of sync so to speak it can be a sign we are of not well and cant tell of you or know how to process the not well feelings in us yet. so these are of some of the thins to think on too. sondra

Guest guest
Hi Marita, We had such an issue with hairbrushing it was part of our ABA therapy routine and yes we used tokens and rewards. First we'd read a social story about brushing hair and everyone needs to brush their hair and when we're done brushing our hair we get a gummy bear vitamin. Then we would brush her hair and then she would mark it off on our morning routine chart with a piece of velcro to show it's been done then she'd get her vitamin. Nowadays she doesn't need the chart or social story anymore but she holds the detangler bottle and the hairtie or barrette in each hand so she can't interupt the brushing and I go really slow so not to hurt her. And she still gets the vitamin -Dana Priscilla's mom PS: Cutting it really does help too- we cut her hair in a bob last winter and she got used to it not hurting when being brushed b/c it didn't get tangled or knotted and so over time when it was easier to brush her shorter hair she just grew used to it as part of the daily routine... > > Subject: Re: Re: help with obsessive behavior > To: Autism_in_Girls > Received: Wednesday, 9 July, 2008, 8:46 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > My daughter hates getting her hair brushed too.
