Guest guest
Friends, I had my consultation with Dr. Geier today. I have to say I've been through genetic testing (for Allie) before, along with pediatric audiologist, neurologist, allergist, 3 DAN!s, psychologist, gastrointerologist, pediatrician, etc. I have to say that in 1 hr with Dr. Geier I felt more questions would get answered than with any of these others. He will essentially be doing a full genetic work up, not just Rett/Fragile X, numerous metabolic workup, and what would be a full DAN! panel. I felt like he wasn't as " nutty " as some DANs feel, more open than most professional clinicians, and reasonable in all aspects. He shared with me some disagreement he had with some of the things we've done with Allie, but in a very respectful, open-minded way. I had the priviledge of meeting father & son a few years ago and was impressed by their professionalism then, but I figured there was little they had to offer after the testosterone issue was examined by my local ped. I really, really wish we had seen him years prior. I've said in the past that I would suggest anyone just getting a dx consider finding a way to get the funding to see Dr. Bradstreet or Neubrander. While I've never taken Allie to either of them, based on my friends' experiences and what we've done so far, I would change that recommendation to consider Dr. Geier first. The reasoning is DANs, in all their greatness (the good ones) are still somewhat chasing symptoms. I feel that Dr. Geier will find the root causes. I could just be overly excited from our consultation and list of impeding labs, but I think I will probably feel very satisfied with Allie finally getting a lot of her health issues addressed.
