Guest guest
In RI its relatively new for those on the autism spectrum. I believe its 100 hours every 6 months, and you can use them however you want. In ri you have to go through CEDARR which is basically a middle man for all services < part of DHS > I have the forms, but having applied yet. I'm a single, stay at home, home schooling mom but my older two children typically ahve been the ones I use to babysit.
Guest guest
I live in PA and my daughter has a duel diagnosis of Autism/MR. We receive money from her base service unit every year to pay for respite and babysitting care. has had this service since she’s been 5…she’ll be 19 on March 6th. Years ago we used to get $1000.00 a calendar year; however, as the demand for help increased and the money allotted to Pa dwindled, it has come down over the years. She receives her behavioral health services through another agency for TSS and home behavior therapist. Her medical assistance card pays for this service. _____ From: Autism_in_Girls [mailto:Autism_in_Girls ] On Behalf Of Lynn Shoop Sent: Friday, February 29, 2008 2:10 AM To: Autism_in_Girls Subject: RE: Respite Hours Your regional center, or whomever is your caseworker is supposed to get you set up with respite care. My husband and I had our first respite on Sunday. 6 hours without Melody. Our first time without her for that long in FOREVER and it was a much needed break. Unfortunately we spent the first two hours fighting. Something that respite is supposed to help you avoid! It rolls over each month so if I don't use it one month, it keeps rolling over until the end of the year. I'm one of the " older " families though & I don't know if being known in the autism community & with Jim being active with our state agency that they are not giving us a hard time about hours. With the state deficit, I know many families are getting hours cut. In AZ, we also get habilitation hours (can be used for ABA), but doesn't pay for consultants. AZ doesn't have many certified providers (BCBA, BCABA) but it's better than nothing. Guest guest
, where is Pa do you live? What is a base unit? How did you get respite? It was never offered to us. Guest guest
I only know that in Tennessee, it is through the Dept of Mental health & retardation. My daughter has received not only respite (a yearly amount) but other monies allocated for various therapies we have tried that was not covered by insurance/school. She has received this since she was 3 years old. I applied through DMDR. Across the state various organizations win the right to distribute the money. Here in Knoxville, it is the Cerebral Palsy foundation. In another county where we lived we had the Arc of that county distributing the money. Normally, it is a yearly amount and you can divide it up as you see fit to get the respite services you need. When your child begins receiving monies from other agencies after 18 or 22 (dont know) then your child will end getting the money for respite. Guest guest
Yes, her respite money, which can be used for other services, is from her MR diagnosis. There is nothing that I’m aware of, other than wrap around, behavioral health services and what the medical assistance card pays for, that provides money for an autism diagnosis. _____ From: Autism_in_Girls [mailto:Autism_in_Girls ] On Behalf Of klrenard@...
