Guest guest
Hi! I'm . My son is a twin who was born prematurely. He's had developmental delays since birth, and has in the past received OT (sensory) services in the home. Over the summer, he began to touch the ground repeatedly, and make short humming noises. We had him evaluated by a psychologist who diagnosed OCD (as well as ADHD). We're experimenting with medications right now to treat both the OCD and ADHD symptoms. Currently, he is taking 2 mg Intuniv for ADHD (and that is helping him to focus) but we weaned him off Sertraline because we did not think it was very effective. Although, now that he is off Sertraline, his OCD behaviors (counting, the uncontrollable urge to stand up, biting himself, defiance and rage) are escalating. I realize that medication effectiveness varies by individual, but I'm wondering if there are any parents of elementary school age children who have had success with a particular anti-depressant. Also, we are actively looking for a psychologist in the western suburbs of Chicago. Anyone local to the area who can share their experiences? Thanks. I'm extremely stressed out about this because I feel like I don't know how to handle his meltdowns/outbursts of rage when he doesn't get his way. Any support would be very much appreciated.
