My thought immediately went to how many new dx of autism that would be in the next three or so years. That number was 4,315,000 births in 2007...1/150 of those kids is 287,667. And that doesn't account for the kids born to military families who have a higher rate or to those who are " on the spectrum " but no official dx of " autism " . I live in Illinois. We have the worst social services in the country (so I have been told more than a few times, and they are cutting funding even more for our new budget)...and all I can think is how do we do this? How do we get our law makers to look forward to fixing the situation to come, instead of looking no further than the next election? And what is the solution? Sorry for the depressing post (it's 1 am here and I've been overwhelmed lately...we have no behavior intervention help here)...maybe I should just copy and paste this post into an email to my state rep and congressmen??? I'll start another post for the bx questions after I have slept. Thanks,
Guest guest
I live in De. Our represenatives are led to believe that becasue we have a school for children with autism that we are doing good. You have to go before your state reps and speak to them about the problem. -- -- -- Joanna http://projectplaytime.tripod.com https://joannafrancisphotography.lifepics.com > http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-07-16-baby-boomlet_N.htm?csp=34?se=yaho\ orefer > > The link is to the yahoo article that featured a USA Today article > that spoke of a record number of babies being born in 2007. Guest guest
I am extremely and have actually thought of re-locating out of the US with my kids because of dwindling services. If change doesn't happen I see very little home for our children. As a former special education teacher, I advocate for my kids and others at times and all I see are school budget cuts. Then the begging for SSI and you should be grateful to get it. Then there are retirees who need and deserve every cent, but then there are those who are making over $100,000 a year and get SS retirement! I am thinking about McCain right now. It all seems unfair financially for our children...every child for that fact. I have contacted my reps, who all say they are doing something. Mainly in regards to vaccinations. Which is great for those are are not yet born or under two years old. What about school age and adulthood for our children. Many are trying to find jobs and have no support. It makes me pretty sad, too. -Teresia > > http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-07-16-baby-boomlet_N.htm?csp=34?se=yaho\ orefer > > > > The link is to the yahoo article that featured a USA Today article > > that spoke of a record number of babies being born in 2007.
